Default Here's a fun little exercise. :)

Lets say you have 91 integra LS gearing and final drive and you finish the quarter mile at 8200 rpm in 3rd gear.

What quarter mile time would you be getting?

Is there a need for more information?

Yes reaction time, engine in the integra etc.... you cant tell someones 1/4 from their mph or rpms they are at in the last gear they are in

how would engine affect times, given the variabes I've mentioned??

I can see reaction time, of course. Assume a 'good' reaction time. Use whatever number you think is good.

original size wheels/tires. tire measurement approximately 23.5"

also assume a good launch, and a clean hard run, with no major driver error like missing shifts.

if you're having trouble, give it a range of times.. like 'high 18s' or 'low 16s' , etc.

the trick here is to realize that only certain motors would run only to the top of 3rd. An lsvtec with 205 whp certainly would make it into 4th.. of course assume its b series, and NA. fuel cutoff set at 8200.

I'm trying to help people get a better idea of quarter mile times. Bear with me here. this isn't a competition thread, its a learning thread.

Too often people estimate a 13 and then run a high 15.

this is kind of a broad question, the engine effects alot...is it even able to rev that high and is it makeing power anywhere near the rpm range

i don't understand how no one's even giving it a general approximation.

anyone have any personal stories that sound close to this?

Anything?

i dont understand how hard it is for you to realize that i depends on the driver track conditions, launch, motor, cars weight...everthing. this is a bench race question isn't it?.... go race and find out any way id guess a high 14

According to an ET calculator: 2600 lbs and 140 HP yields a 15.426 second ET at ~88.36 MPH.

Which actually, if you're a dang good driver, is pretty accurate. You know, running it up to 8200 with stock LS camshafts will raise your ET, 3rd or 4th gear regardless. Finishing in 3rd gear is not the end-all-be-all of getting a low ET.

But for the sake of your question - disregarding the power loss you'd see above 6500 RPM shifting at 8200, you'd finish just under 7000 RPM in 3rd gear with a stock 90' LS.

To finish at 8200 RPM with that same transmission and 2600 lb chassis, you'd be finishing at 105 MPH @ 8200 RPM with an ET of 12.97. That would also require 235 crank horsepower.

These are all estimates from these two free calculators

If you have a 91 integra LS you will not hit 8200 since rev limiter is at 6800.

yeah, 91 LS teg, JDM b16a, PR3(unopened), ls gearing, finishes quarter mile at the top of 3rd. This car doesn't make sense. I've changed no internal parts.

Thanks for the links. I wouldn't be revving a stock ls motor to 8200. That turbofast.com calculator is going by whp, not crank hp. 2600 lbs w/ 135whp is a 15.4, according to that calculator, which sounds like a normal b16a swapped integra.

thanks for the estimate. That's all I was looking for. I'm pretty familiar with the other conditions that affect it.. doesn't mean an estimate is out of the question... No bench racing for me. Its not a race car, its just a regular daily driver that's running strong, so its not worth the money to me for me to get it dyno'd or run at the track. I honestly don't even care enough to take the time to go. Though all this not-knowing is getting a little annoying..

------

Friends have been bugging me to get it to the track or on the dyn for a while. I've had the car for 2 years and haven't cared enough to bother. All I care about is its fast enough for me, I'm not too worried about how it compares to other cars.. I'm not competing, I'm just trying to get an idea..

there is a spot we go to in town here back in the woods with a quarter mile marked off with white lines.. Normal paved road, pretty new(they just put a warehouse back in there and get truck deliveries all the time). Obviously we've checked the distance between the two lines with a couple different cars. The road is slightly inclined, and at the end of the quarter mile, like right when i cross the line the revlimit kicks on. Its so close to redline that sometimes just before i cross the line the revlimit kicks in. If I was really gay I might use a stopwatch to time myself. LOL We've drawn no conclusions about our actual qm time from these little gay exercises other than a basic general idea, after racing others who have been to the track.

thanks to everyone who replied with intelligent thoughts....

hmm, lets see..

I bought this integra for $3000, with the motor already installed. The motor originally cost $1100, and the trans grinded so there was a refund of $200. Total cost for motor: $900.

A GSR motor with ecu and NO trans, even at my resellers cost, would run about $2200, safe estimate.

So I currently have a motor pushing around 170hp, give or take 5 for $900. Or I could have had a motor with 195hp give or take 5 for $2200. $2200-$900= $1300. Is $1300 worth 25hp??? Is it worth 20lbft of torque?

Now when you consider that every integra and every civic I've ever run against on the street, that was NA, has lost to me, is there really any reason to worry about that ~20hp?

90 integra gs w/ b16a swap, i/h/e, pr3, b16 gearing, lost to me by 2-3 car lengths. Then he lost by 1.5 car lengths with my fatass 210lb friend in the car with me. This one is especially revealing, because its basically my same car with the same motor. (looking for a vouch from the fatass friend )

Another friend with a 93 integra gsr, i/h/e, type r cams, chipped ecu, stock gearing, revving to 8600, lost to me by a fender.(trentepic, vouch me)

Another friend with a 95 del sol vtec, with type r cams, type r intake mani, i/h/e, larger aftermarket throttle body, lost to me by a fender.

the 93 gsr, 90 gs teg, and del sol are repeated runs. Ran at least 4 or 5 times, from a stop. Same result each time.

I'll save my $1300, and perhaps get a b16a for my crx.

that is correct
the car was mine till i sold it to him, its gotta lot more power then the gen2 gsr i got to replace it, theres defineately something up wid that motor, it seems substantially more powerfull and faster to comperale setups, ne wayz i dont see why a certain estimated trapspeed cannot correspond with a realiastic acheivable et.

What elevation are you at? Higher altitude would be a slower time, the air is thinner meaning less molecules to pack into your cylinder wall making less horsepower. Likewise at lower elevation the air is more dense, meaning more molecules into your cylinder walls meaning more horsepower. So yah after a few more pages of adding little bits of information like this, you could figure it out. Good luck

Who said they were doing the E.T. 1/4 mile? Who said it was at a race track? On a real 1/4 mile race there is no "Oops i had a little delay as soon as i was flagged to launch, so since he beat me take away .300 seconds away from my time and i beat him, so i win the race"

I can't believe that only one person was daring enough to actually estimate a time. this is about the exact time I was estimating as well.. high 14's. Would be really amazing if it could actually hit 14.5, but I highly doubt that..
