the gear that indicates the speed that's joined to the differential spun or broke, it' fucked up. this means i have no vtec..... help please does anyone know why this happens which sensor does the computer read off of, to know if the speedometer works. any info would be the ****, life is dull without vtec!!
the sensor that reads it is the vehicle speed sensor which is shown above in the vss post. Since I'm assuming you're obd0 the computer reads it off of your gauge cluster. However replacing the vss should fix your problem. My suggestion is go to a junkyard and find a vss.

my vss is fine. the gear that indicates the speed in the differential is messed up. what i want to do is find out were in the gauge cluster does the computer detect the vss. is it a sensor, relay, positive current, negative current, ect........

so ur just out to trick the computer not fix the problem right? what gear broke the one deep inside your trans? maybe u need to replace the cable? just tryin to save u some trouble

ya i want to trick the ecu, the gear thats inside the trans broke, the trans is fine, so i don't want to rip it open and change the differential to a perfectly good trans i can without the speedo but not witnhout vtec

Its impossible to 'trick' the ecu on that. Because the VSS sends pulses to the ecu. So if you find a way to send pulses to the ecu based on speed you let me know.
Try replacing the VSS, The whole VSS assembly goes down into the differential gears

You could probably get a small DC motor to rotate the speedo like the cable does..and then it would work..
I used to get code 17 all the time, but the cable/speedometer worked.
It ended up being this device inside the cluster..
So before I did the swap,I found another instrument cluster...

Isnt the VSS a variable? so a fixed Dc motor couldnt reproduce what the VSS see'

I meant to use the motor to rotate the mechanism in the speedometer
From what I understand,it sends a pulse voltage to the ecu,
So,if you sent a constant pulse at the proper rpm,
I would guess that might work...Just a theory...
