Just get a pre-made kit like the Greddy. Turbo and N/A are equally reliable if you tune them properly. But I mean if you like the n/a approach more then by all means go for it. Right now I have a D series and I plan on turboing it in the future, but if I had the chance and money to buy a dual cam motor I would do so.

word, i recently helped out upgrading the turbo on my friend's DSM and had some practice on his car doing things (FI related) that I can apply when I get a kit for my car. His GSX pulls hard liek travelling through time during boost and that whats I liek about turbo'd cars
If you are fully building your motor then boost is def. reliable. Do some research about tunning and what not and make conclusions for yourself. You will be lucky to get 200 hp with a built d series for the street N/A. I would either swap if u want more than that or boost the d if your looking for some real power and fun as well

LOL it could be user error. Turbo is reliable and fun. To minimize errors, take your time installing things (especially oil related things) and get a customizable ECU. And TUNE TUNE TUNE!

slap on a turbo kit, there are turbo D;s out there that have 200whp on stock internals so imagine building it somewhat then boosting. You could hand alot of dualcam ***
Turbo that D series. They make great power when boosted right.

well depending on budget and power you want, me personally, i want 385whp+ so i would have to swap something in. i dont see a D series being cheap and putting down that power. but if you decide to swap and sell your D16y8 i would like to know

You could prolly do that with a b18b swap and stay fairly cheap.

i figured an h22 but b18 would work better for my pocket. i want to get a decent amount of power out of my D16 while i build whichever engine i decide on so thanks for the info

Great advice. My bet is on user error. I personally would build and turbo the Y8. In the end you will have saved soo much money if that is a concern. And even if it's not, turbo cars are still tons of fun to drive.
