gurgling sound from open wastegate.
I have driven my car maybe a total of 15 miles with the wastegate spring out, so as to run with no boost while i get my exhaust welded up and then get it tuned. I got my exhaust welded and i noticed that on top of the normal hella loud open dp sound, there is a kind of gurgle.
SYMPTOMS:
+It sounds kind of like a playing card on a bycicle wheel, and its coming out of my open wastegate.
+It happens upon acceleration, much like im building boost. My turbo hardly spools however, i watched it as i pulled on the throttle, and looked at the bitch spin.
+could just be me, but my power seems pretty dead.
I primed the turbo, tightened everything down, did EVERYTHING i could think of. any suggestions? ill prolly find out in 4 or 5 days when i get tuned, but id like a heads up f you guys think i might have blown my turbo or something. THanks in advance.

i dont think anything is wrong... u said u pulled out the wastegate spring.. well without a spring in there the valve will be open as long as the car is running. and its gonna sound like a massive exhaust leak, like a lawn mower.
yea it sounds kind of like a diesel. Im freakin out caus this project took wayyyyy too long to finish and now something went wrong riiiiight at the end, or maybe it didnt i dunno. Anyone else wanna console me?
Also, does kragen have flexible hose i can use for my filter? thanks!

So put the spring in and just dont boost. I think you will feel much better after that.

ok so now ive put the spring in and theres still a clicking sort of sound coming from somewhere under the hood upon acceleration. Ive tried to locate it by reving the engine w the throttle cable, but it doesnt make the noise when the cars not moving.
??
Ive watched the turbo spin while listening, and heard no sound........... what the hell is going on?!

yea i would think so too, but i JUST had the exhaust done. Also for some reason it doesnt do it when theres no load on the engine (ie in neutral).
put in the wastegate spring and took out a section of the piping so that i dont boost. Its really hard to tell, but if i was hard pressed Id say the sound has moved to the empty spot where the piping was. Is this just a normal turbo sound?

beepy is right, usually an exhaust leak. Im gonna guess that you are just listening to the motor too hard and it is probably fine. So many things tick on your car...injectors, valves, pistons. Its not a Ferrari so dont expect the engine to sound like a symphony when you rev it. You should hear my built block cold start. You would pull your hair out
haha okay. Tomarrow at DSR i think ill have them listen to it and lemme know. I could just need a valve lash, but ill just ask tomarrow. thanks everyone, ill let you know how it turns out
