I came home from the track last night and had a very good night, I went 14.7@92 but only had a 2.2 60ft. I have only a couple of mods and stock suspension. I am thinking of running some radials or maybe even slicks, I just want to know if I am at a good risk for snapping an axle, I don't wanna break an axle and pay the expensive tow home. Any good info will be greatly appreciated.

Not true. I used to launch my NA b16 @ 8k and only broke one axle on that setup (on 20x8 slicks). I was launching my low 12 sec. Turbo'd LS hatch @ 6K on OE axles and Never broke one. I now have a Turbo'd GSR in an EG and I have faith the OE axles will hold on the 24.5" slicks launching @ 6K +. I preload every launch

I use stock axles on 24.5 by 9 slick and they hold up.It depends on how you load the drive train and how much tire spin you get.I have gone 10.4 on them.I break them but I use Pep boys axles and I return them when they break.
my setup isnt a real powerhouse, ive been using my original oe swap axles since late '00. all kinds of variations on NA b20's in my 4dr and my hb street cars. probably a couple hundred trips down the track, never better than a 1.7 60 ft tho. run 20's and 22's, i dont preload, i just side step it and go. i just picked up some driveshaftshop stg 3's but will wait until these break first before replacing them.

So you are saying it would be safe to run slicks then but just to preload the tires. What do you mean preload? I have never heard that term before. I am not really new to racing, just new to that term. Thanks for the helpful input.

I use the e-brake by holding in the button but, I have seen a few people delete the locking mechanism to make it easier.

I've run over 2 years and 50k miles on the same set of cheap reman axles without one problem. Lots of 1.6 60ft's on slicks. The key is preloading like was said before.
It's like hitting a nail with a hammer. You lay the hammer against the nail and press it isn't going anywhere. Swing it and give it about 2 feet to build up momentum and it's gonna do some damage. The key is taking the intial load off the drivetrain but putting some pressure on the clutch. I have the clutch released a little right before I launch and release it slower. That will heat up the clutch but if done right it will last a while and keep stress off the whole drivetrain including the tranny/diff.

i use a line lock to preload, my trigger is on my shifter, slowly release the clutch as soon as its a go i release the button, i have a good launch with everything preloaded. no axle breaks yet.
John if your worried about breaking axles get a set from autozone then if you break it we can change it out at the track. And they have a life time warrenty so you can just take the broken one back. It only takes a few mins not that hard.
As far as preloading I will show you this weekend how to do it.
I was on stock axles for a while with my 24.5 slicks and my bfg. I never had a problem and I was not preloading my drivetrain at first.

OK, Back to this preloading thing, what exactly is it? Do you ease off the clutch a little and not side-step the clutch as bad? sorry to chime in but I'd like more info, I'm buying slicks and need to learn more about them.
thanks
thanks
i make 155wtq, and i've never broken an axle (still on 200,000+ mile civic standard axles)
my buddy make 132wtq and has broken several autozone remans.
i guess its up to how you drive, and how good the axles are. some autozone remans SUCK. some have treated us fine.

Yea Chad, your gonna have to show me how to do it. I was all excited I got a 2.2 on my virtually stock GSR. I am gonna get radials really soon.
Thanks to all you drag guys giving me good info, I am gonna look into preloading the clutch. I will just have to practice it some more. Thanks again. If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know.

I am looking into getting a set of Full-Race traction bars, or L-con ones. Unless you feel really confident in your welding skills and wanna make me a set Chad.
