Removing Valve springs and retainers from my 98 GSR
I have a local shop put in some aftermarket valve springs and retainers into my car about a year ago, to go with my skunk2 cams. I have decided to remove everything and return it back to stock. I was wondering what I had to do to remove the aftermarket springs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
When I took apart my head, I used a socket something larger than the keeper and smaller than the retainer (a extended 14mm comes to mind not sure if right size or not). Place the socket on the retainer and hit the socket with a hammer. The spring will compress enough to make the keepers fall out and be able to take apart the head. Thats the easy way to do it if you dont have a valve spring compressor.
get a spring compressor to make everything easier. but if u dont have the right tools then u will need to take the head off.
u can use compressed air in the cylinders to hold the valves up while u swap back springs, but u may want to leave that up to someone that has done it before
