Default type-r tranny or not? you tell me!

I just bought what i thought was an itr tranny(96) which is supposed to have lsd. i know that the 98 and up trannies have a stamp on the tranny that says that L-S-D. well this one dosen't is there any way really to tell b/c i really didnt want to tear it apart to find out. it does have an inscription on the tranny that might help someone help me figure it out it says: YSK 2 and for what is worth the serial is: S80-3025448 i did see the motor that it came of and the motor was a b18C (the j-spec type-r) i dont know if any of that will help you or not but my gs-r tranny has that same YSK 2 inscription did i get ripped or is the tranny legit. oh! the tranny hasen't been put on yet incase you were wondering. i was wondering if there was a way to tell before i put it in.

thanks!

look through the hole that the axles go in if you can see through it its an lsd equipped tranny , if it has a bar through it then its non lsd

sorry it took so long to write back but i couldnt figure out how to find my add i looked at the tranny and i could see straight through it. So for future reference if you cant see through the axle holes than it is not an lsd

Also is there any difference in the gearing in the trannies between the (96-97) and (98-01) trannies or are the same

Thats a pretty common myth that isn't always true. They still have a pinion shaft, its just of a different type. Sometimes possie's will have the bar right thru like open diffs.
