Default gas octane & smog

seems like a simple question, but I searched & couldn't find an answer for it.

basically, I have an '86 CRX Si that I need to smog. Last time it was really close to failing, especially on HC's.

So what gas burns cleaner, 87 or 91?

Thanks

the higher the octane rating the more heat it needs to burn.

Id run the 87 and some of that "make it pass" stuff. that way you will be sure to burn the majority of fuel

"Make it pass" Is just a fuel system cleaner. Run the 87 octane. Go get it tested and if it fails post the numbers here so, we can anlalyxe them. Good luck.

i failed last year in my 00 si. i then went and got some 100 octane, and drove really hard for a while to heat up the catalytic converter, and then tested again and passed.

just thought i'd share.

throwing 15% or so methanol in your fuel tank will help a bit too.
