Launching on Slicks, 190WHP + Stock axles
Hello, here is the deal. I'm going to the track sunday to see what times I can pull out of my ***, the thing is.. I've never raced on the track with slicks.
I'm running a 190whp LSVTEC in my little red box, my axles are stock DA axles.. and I'm trying not to break anything. If anybody could give me a few pointers that would be excellent, the slicks I am using are M&H slicks, not sure about the width, they're not my slicks.. but they're pretty wide. Hopefully I can develop a good launching technique, how do you all recommend I start off?

start high rev and if you spin alot lower the rpms down on your next pass by a few 100 rpms. If you bog raise the rpms up a bit a launch. It takes practice.
This has worked with 256 hp and 24x8's on stock axels for me. Preload the clutch, and make sure that your axels are in a straight line. If your car is slammed, raise it up intill the axels look straight. Try and run wrinkle wall slicks this will help absorbe the shock from launching at 8k.
1. Start off with a high Tire pressure. Something like 14psi. You'll feel if the car will like it at that tire pressure. Go down 1psi at a time so you can tell the difference in your launches. Once you think it is gripping better. Either keep it at that PSI or go lower in .5psi increments.
You don't want to go to drastic in tire pressure change since you can't tell where the sweet spot(what psi your setup likes) would be.
We just ran a 10.70 on our 600+HP Civic. it was on stock axles and stock tranny. We had it at the just above where it would spin a bit but hook up. The spinning prevents the harsh engagement and is easier on the axles and tranny. You dont want the tire pressure too low since it might hook up TOO much. You dont necessarily want that.

I had 194 ttw's and ran 22/9/13 M&H slicks about 7000 rpm launch feather just a split sec hooked 1.7's all day ran 12.9 full interior. For the burnout 2nd gear rev 7-8000 pop the clutch slightly in the water then you will feel the car start pulling you then put the clutch in roll abit then test them in 1st before you get to the line. i assume that preloading means you set the ebrake and then feather the clutch a bit to load the front end. Will this pull you far enough forward to break the second beam and finish staging or do you do it after your fully staged? Letting off the ebrake and getting bake to the shifter that fast while working the gas and clutch would take some prictice. Remind me to get some stage 5 DSS axles
