Default engine choice

new guy here.

im kinda stumped, facing a bit of a dillema, you could call it a crossroad in the project, but the project hasnt been started yet.

basically, im building (and possibly driving sometimes) a 1995 civic, for competing in tarmac rally events mainly, with possibly a few loose events thrown in, the group im entering is rather open with their rules, you guys might like this actually, 110 db limit @ 4500 rpm, and the car must way 1 lb per engine cc.. after that its just minor rules that wont be much of a problem, stuff like wheel width..

the competition in 2wd cars down here is rather close, but nobody uses a honda, and the few guys ive talked to just said that they would end up breaking down (because one guy built up a civic the wrong way, and broke down twice last year..) so, its gonna be a bit of proving a point too.

oh yea, naturally aspirated, no nitrous, nothing.

the dilemma is in the engine i'd start with.. b16, 16, k20.. i dont really want to go over a 2 litre powerplant, all the engines have their pros/cons.. the b16 will let me use fiberglass doors, hood, everything... but it will cost more to get the power (itb's cams full head work, raise the cr a bit, u know how it goes ) or i could go with a jdm ITR engine, cost me a bit at first, but i wouldnt have to spend as much $$ afterwards, and i could focus more cash on the rest of the car.. the k20 was actually suggested to me today, its got nice torque, but im still not so sure about that engine.. im a big fan of the b series stuff

any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks guys

I would go CTR B16B with an LS/Crank... 1.8 with a 1.6 badge. Smartest thing you can do in my opinion.

Or perhaps a B16A built by Tech43, 1.9 liters and people know it's not an R motor.

in rallying, reliability is allways the main deciding factor in engine building.. but however, after speaking to the other guys on the team, we have decided to keep it at 1600cc displacement, for the lowest possible overall weight.. also, 190 hp to the wheels will be needed to make it a competitive machine, would you guys go with a b16b or a b16a as the start of the engine build?

if u want to stay with 1.6 then b16b for sure. it will be easier to get 190 whp with the ctr motor unless u want a turbo
