Default ITR community help

ok guys I need a favor,

As many of you know Jennifer Barton had her 97 ITR stolen about a month ago now. Well for those that don't remember the car was eventually found, but it was stripped, and now she is in the settlement process with her insurance provider. Now here is where the problem comes in. Her insurance provider is giving her a hard time, and trying to settle at only $9k. We all know that the car is worth MUCH more than that. What I need is to know how some of you ITR owners that have gone through a similar scenario, got what you wanted for the car. What type of documents did you present to them to argue the value of the car, and how did you get them to settle with you at the number you wanted. If anyone could PM or email me some info as to how you proved market value on the vehicle we would GREATLY appreciate it. Any info would help tremendously. My email is dandc2@gmail.com Thanks for the help

dan, I went through the same thing with my gs-R... and most go through it with the Type R...

you have to pull up similar cars for sale "TypeR's" with same or close to the same milage and show the insurance company how much it is going for.

she also can probably pull up some of the info on how rare the car was and what set the Type R apart from all the other integras.

Hopes this. helps.

p.s. 2 days till homestead.

yeah thats what we have been doing.... even got the document posted on here way back from Acura saying the number of 97 ITR's sold in the US (thanks Bbasso ) but they are still being a pain in the ***, I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything else to do to reach a higher number.

You just have to argue and fight with them... thats how insurance companies work.. they dont want to give you what the car is really worth. But in the end you will hit a period were they will tell you thats all they are gonna offer you... its sad that she may get screwed but.. just keep fighting with them.

Good Luck.

It also will depend just how off you and the insurance company. If they are offering 9k and she wants 20k, there is obviously going to be some wiggle room between the both of you.

For your reference, I just sold my 97R w/ 73k miles for $12,900. This was back in February.

Doesn't mileage and condition play a huge part in the value? If I was looking for a '97 R and found one with low miles, in great condition with all the service records I wouldnt mind spending $16 or $17k on it. That doesnt mean that is the actual value of the car though. A ragged out R isnt worth as much as perfect ones. I'm not saying this applies to that car in particular, but it is something to consider. I hope the insurance gives a lot more than $9000 for it though. Good luck.

the mileage wasn't horrible... it definately is worth more than 9k, not including the value of the mods

well, I dunno how this happened, but I ended up getting $19K back for my 2000 ITR after the interior was stolen and deemed totalled. Thats EVEN WITH the car being previously totalled. I claimed it had about 33K miles on it and they gave me $19K for it which is ver close to what I paid for it a year earlier. I didnt give them any additional documentation other than receipts I had for parts but they didnt really take those into account. I have Liberty Mutual by the way.

I'm surprised nobody ever utilizes their state's insurance commissioner's office to help; that's what they're PAID to do.

Here's the complaint form you need for FLORIDA:

Good luck

I covered this base with State Farm when I bought my '97 a year ago with low miles. At the time my agent said don't worry about it because the price you purchase it for plays a big part in the payout, if necessary.

Good luck and I hope she gets close to what the "real" value is.

I'm finding it hard to keep my insurance costs down...I was with Progressive with my GSR and when I was rear-ended. I bought my Type R and they wanted 3600 every 6 mon. (GSR was 1800 every 6 mon) So I switched to Bristol West, and it was back at 1800 every 6 mon. But recently I put the R back to full coverage (being stored for the winter) and they wanted 719 on my last bill from them...I was like screw that, and I went to Grange insurance company and I'm only paying 1183 every 6 mon. I guess this is a little OT but it seems these insurance companies are catching on that these cars are worth a lot of money and are willing to charge you a lot to insure it and pay you next to nothing when you get in a accident or stolen.....Good luck on knocking some sense into you insurance company...

I was worried about this when mine was stolen a couple days ago. State Farm told me not to worry about it and that I will get the value of the vehicle at the time of loss. Even with the miles I don't believe I will be able to replace it for the price I paid. Have you tired telling them you want the car replaced? Tell them to go find another one for 9K.

yeah well supposedly they said they can find a 98 for 9k.... so we told them to show us more than one, because i can show a list of 98's going for 18k-22k

i think this is just gonna take some time
