SCCA license
Im sure http://www.scca.org or http://www.nasaracing.com can answer that for you.
Are you talking road racing, or auto-x? Auto-x, you can just join, though you don't even have to do that unless you are sure there are auto-x's in your area by the SCCA or NASA.
If you're talking about road racing, each has individual requirements. You can get an SCCA provisional by passing 2 race/driver's schools, w/ no previous experience needed... Or you can get your NASA license by working your way up from the driving school to the competition school.
Nice thing about an SCCA racing license is that it's basically an all events ticket. That gets you into EMRA, NASA, whatever.
I'm sure someone else will come along and better explain things.
Warren, who has both his SCCA and NASA provisionals

sorry, but I have NO respect for moderators who think they are bad *** and do not help people out, just cause they "believe" that they have been around lonnger than you have.
Let's see, if you go to http://www.scca.org (which BTW is one of the URLs that Chris gave you -- what, was he supposed to include a smiley face so you didn't get offended?), you can find the "Guide to obtaining your competition license," which is linked from the main page. Here is the URL, since you can't think for yourself: http://www.scca.org/amateur/club_racing/guide.html
I'll have to agree with both sides. I get repetative questions all the time, but we should all put in a little time to help out.
Some regions if you have a SCCA SOlo II license you will get discounts and in California some clubs require it since they have huge turnouts and people who have Solo II licenses will actually be a little more into autocrossing then someone just showing up off the street.
For Club Racing and SOlo I it's a bit more indepth.

how hard is it to get an SCCA or NASA license?
For regional club racing, the answer is not hard. But time consuming and expensive. It requires dedication, research, and common sense. Count on spending a year (minimum) earning either.
Do you have to go through a class, or can you just get oneby filling out there membership form?
Are there any dues other than the annual regional and national dudes...and of course the track day dues????
See the webiste Chris pointed you at for more details.
I have raced under both sanctions before too, just with no license yet
Don't bring that poo poo in here meat!

Look bud, I'm going to make this crystal clear. Competition is something we take very seriously over here. As such, our forum is based on the truthful conveyance of track-related knowledge. Jackassery and discourteous behavior is not tolerated like it might be on other boards or even other forums on this one. If you have serious questions pertinent to our fields of experience, we can answer those. If you act in disrespectful ways towards our senior members, rest assured that you will get a beatdown. Period. No judge, no jury, just executioner. Play nice, ask intelligent questions, respond respectfully and you'll get more info than you could ever want. BTW, attempting to act smarter than the folks around here is futile; sharp of skill and wit they are.

Has anyone seen the webiste that God's Gift To Racing has in his signature? Here are some of the subject lines from their "Autocross/Road Racing" section:
"cruise this weekend?"
"What is autocrossing?"
"lets cruise some twisties this week"

If you look at my original question I asked a SPECIFIC question about the fees and any other classes that they do not originally inform you of.
It was only after your original edit that you added things about classes to take, or fees to pay.
So, if you're going to lie, in addition to cry and whine, please don't come back. Thank you.
