B17-not enough comp. for skunk s2?
I'm looking into some cams for my currently (internally) stock b17, and I'm interested in the skunk s2's, but I'm thinking maybe 10:1 is rather low for those. I'm definitely planning on using the thinner mugen head gasket when I install the cams/valvetrain, but even then I'm still looking at probably 10.3:1. I don't want to get stage 1 cams since I'm planning on some p30 pistons in the future, and then I would actually be able to benefit from the s2's. So here's my question in a nutshell: will the stage 2's still give me some decent gains for now? As always, thanks in advance
The S2S2's will give you power gains, but only at WAY high rpm's....like around 7k. They will bog when vtec engages big time, but will pull harder for a thousand rpm or so. Also remember that they need to have the springs/retainers upgraded......you honestly might be better off waiting or doing some type r cams for now, those <U>will</U> make a difference in the butt dyno with your stock springs.
Personally I wouldn't bother with the valvetrain if you're keepin your ecu and rev limiter stock, you won't have any problems.....wise decision(for now)

</TD></TR></TABLE> yes i know, but who said anything about stock rev limiter
and ya I've heard 9.6, 9.7, and 10 for the 17's comp but I just thought i'd use a round number

The comp on a stock B17 is too low for the cams. Your dynamic compression will be so rediculously low that any small gains up top won't be worth the losses you get down low. You're trying to "half ***" something. You should wait to get the compression bumped and then worry about a good set of cams. I wouldn't even waste the money on CTR cams at this point. Save it up for the pistons, rings, headgasket and valvetrain your going to need to run a set of real cams. You might also need to upgrad other things such as your intake manifold, header, intake, exhaust.. I don't know your full setup.
