Default Type R or no... DC2... no sunroof... no side molding...

so today i went to my dad's auto body shop. i went out back and my dad pointed out a car to me and said "i can get this car for $1,500"

I looked at it... popped the hood... it had
a B18B1 in it...
a 94-97 front end...
it was black exterior..
tan interior...
no sunroof...
no side moldings...

it said only 66,000k on the speedo...
REDLINE WAS 8,000RPM?!?!?!
it was 4 luggin
it had an OEM front strut bar...
all i can remember from the VIN was DC2 3 ?!?!?!?

my dad said the only reason he cant buy it is because of smog... it has to have some kind of computer or scanner device plugged in under the dash to smog it?!?! my dad said if i can get the plug... he'll buy it for $1,500

IS THIS A GSR OR A TYPE R!?!?!?!

of course my theory is they stripped the car of its 5 lug, engine, interior, and front end... im going tmrw to check out the rest of the VIN

*edit*

I just re-read your post and you said the VIN stated "DC2". write down the whole VIN number and see if you can't run it by an acura dealership and have them look it up ( if they'd even do that ). B18B1 is a non-vtec motor......it may have been a GSR that had body work done......OR....in a slim chance, it could have been a type R that was previously stolen, stripped of the 5 lug and whoever had it, tried to rebuild it. Checking the VIN Number would be the only definite answer you'd get.

all i can remember is the DC2 3 part of the vin... one more number and i would've known what trim it was...

uhhhh...you mean the scanner? At the risk of asking a stupid question......you said it had a 94-97 front end....possibly OBD2? If so....OBD2 scanner? or something?

it's not an itr......who would go through the trouble of putting in a tan interior, along with the four lug setup, and b18b..........not to mention the usdm itr cluster's redline begins slightly beyond 8k rpm.

it sounds like an RS with a swapped cluster.......except for the vin.

no idea about what the device is....but go back and write down the vin number, then we can tell what it is exactly.

Thats what I was thinking. I see at least 2 possibilities. 1: it may have been a vtec motor ( since the vin read DC2 ) and the car was rebuilt after it being stolen and stripped.......or someone was being ultra stupid and swapped out the parts to another car. 2: being stolen.....and it MAY have been a type R ( I'm just guessing here...not saying I know for a fact ), interior, motor and 5 lug stripped out, whoever purchased the shell decided it'd be a cheap fixer upper and got the 4 lug suspension.........no wait. Hey dude.....when you go back to write the vin number down....one way to tell whether it was a type R or not is to look at the REAR suspension. Specifically where the lower control arm connects to the underbody. That long piece that's welded to the bottom( called the gusset??? ) should have had on either side a part that the OEM lower tie bar bolts on to. If it doesn't.....or it doesn't look like it would have came that way from the manufacturer....it wasn't a type R. Not too sure if anyone knows what the hell I'm talking about

do the engine and firewall vin's match up? if so, its just a non-vtec integra with a new cluster, strut bar and shaved moldings, not that unlikely. pics would definitely help out...

dude your info is full of holes and contradicts itself.

for 1,

no DC2 (Vtec motor) other than a type r had no sunroof, and who would go thru all that trouble to seal up the sunroof on a GSR?

Another thing, i think you read the VIN wrong, probably is a DC4 RS.

If it was a type R shell, like the dude said earlier, who would bother putting in the tan interior and 4 lug, etc...

Most likely it is an RS shell with shaved moldings and a VIN off another car. (that is if is a DC2)

Who cares if it is a type R, itll be a shell for $1500, nothing on the car is obviously Type R, and with all that work if it was once an ITR its now a theft or salvage title.

who me??? I just went off of info he posted. Though....I can see why you think he read the VIN wrong. But its awfully hard to mistake a 4 for a 2

As for the who would...comment.....hey..if the car had previously been stolen, savagely raped and violated by the thieves and if someone later recovered the shell and tried to re-build it....its easily understandable why. He mentioned it was supposed to be black interior. Well....the sticker on the drivers side door jam will indicate your interior color. Perhaps if someone was trying to rebuild it, they ( like most who try to convert from tan to black ) had a hard time coming across black interior pieces or settled for the first color he came across. As for the 4 lug.....well all in all the actual answers lie with whoever owned it last and maybe even before that person.

I do agree with the shaved moldings though. But again, we won't know until he gets the VIN ran.

haha.... those are so Ghey, if you get this car, that should be your first mod.

Maybe the theif was trying to de-Rice his car, and swapped the shitty tan interior, B18B, 4 lug, and the ALTEZZAS on this car.

dude....just get the vin number and have it ran stop wasting time!!!!!

oh and yea....so qwell ( <-sp?) everyone's curiosity or......whatever it is.....when you go back to get the vin tomorrow, check the part where the lca will bolt onto that piece underneath the body ( circled in green). I mentioned this before......and I'm going to borrow one of bbasso's pic from his for sale thread.....with ms paint highlight of what I'm talking about .....since I found a good pic of it. Bbasso....I hope you don't mind.

the arrow will point to that part. I'm sure you'll notice all tegs do NOT come with that part I pointed out with the green arrow unless its a type R. So if that teg don't got it.....it aint a type R.

lol. just get the VIN. its annoying reading through theories (not saying which are true or not). but on the real, just write the VIN down. is it that hard??

maybe it was stolen and stripped, then got a salvaged title... no one in there minds would convert a "DC2" chassis into an LS. unless it was a bare shell

if this is a redone type r from theft, theres a possibility that wont be there.
