Can Fog lights also be used as turn signals?
Was wondering if anyone can help me answer this question. But I will tell you what I have in mind.
I am putting on a new aftermarket fron bumper on my 95 Integra, but the after market bumper doesn't use the OEM Turn signals. Here is a pic of the bumper:

My brother had bought a simila kit from Wing West called the AVENGER and it came with special lights that had to be mounted on on the car itself.
Since mine didnt not come with any such custom turn signals, people were telling me to buy some trailer lights that will work as turn signals.
But my idea was that instead of using ugly trailer lights was to use fog lights instead. Now here is where the questions come in.
1.) Can I splice the wire that connected to the OEM turn signal and connect it to a fog lamp?
2.) If #1 is possible, then when I turn on the headlights the Foglamps should light up right?
3.) If #1 is possible again, is there enough power going through that OEM wire to power up the fog lamp?
4.) If #1 is possible, when I signal to turn left or right, it should make the fog light blink right?
Hopefully someone can tell me if this idea is possible.
NO HATERS PLEASE! Read many post of people bashing aftermarket stuff. Just looking for HELP not HATRED.
thanks in advance

A fog lamp is just that a fog lamp.
It should be on its own switch.
I had aftermarket ones wired right to the battery with an inline fuse. Or the OEM will plug into the fuse box.
I dont think the fog lamp bulb will hold up to being turned on and off. It is ment to be on or off. Not flash.
You could get a fog lamp lense and run the OEM signal bulb into it and use that. But i am pretty sure legally you have to hav the bliner be seen from both the front and side

if you found a set of foglights you like you could drill a hole on each side and use a rubber grommet to keep moisture out and have the fog and signal in the same housing but different harnesses or rigging jobs
yes...but u'll be running out of foglights quicker
from what i think, what you do is splice into the wire for the turn signal, and then also splice into the wire in the parking light so u have 2 wires going into the power wire on the actual fog lamp

Thanks for all the reply guys.
this is good stuff keep 'em coming. It helps me brainstorm all the ideas.
I was also thinking about somehow rigging the OEM turn signals too, but I didnt want to mount it on the bumper.
the bumper would have a grill in the front and I'd have to see if it can somehow be mounter behind the grill.
I'm all new to this. So all Input helps.
Anyone know a good place online that has some nice stylish fog lamp lenses? I may look into that idea that Racermech
mentioned.

Better yet, upgrade your front end to a 98+ front end.

As always...the FIRST step is to check with local statutes in regards to exterior lighting for your vehicle should it ever be driven on public roads. I say this so that if you do that first, you will get better ideas on what to do and not to do so as to avoid any harrassment from your local law enforcement agents.
IMHO, your best bet is to try installing the OEM corners somehow. But upon examining that bumper, it may require some extra work
But that's a given. Foglights were made and designed to be just that....foglights. While your idea of customization is a creative one and totally possible, keep in mind that most statutes will require that you can see them from the side too, to a "certain" extent. so unless you were planning on "angling" the foglights to comply, I wouldn't even bother with this idea. but each state has its own "wording" to the statute. I'd try and read up on it first before continuing.
lastly, you said your brother had a similar kit that came with "special" light housings for the bumper. Have you thought about trying to call Wings West and seeing if you could order those lights to use on your bumper instead?

nobody said it because it wasn't part of the question being asked, nor did he ask for our opinion. So how the hell does your comment have any positive matter for this thread? go troll somewhere else.

I know a lot of guys here like the stock look, but I like the look which you guys now dub as "Rice". I just prefer after market bumpers. IMy first choice was the BOMEX but I don't like fiberglass.
I just found stock bumper a little boring already.
Anyways, to all the "rice" haters go **** yourselves! It's my car not yours, and I can do what I please. So if you have nothing positive to contribute to my questions, just shut the **** up.
To all the Honda Tech members that have helped me with my questions so far. I appreciate all the help.
I just wish there were more members like you on Honda Tech rather than seeing those trolls like Bay_707

i <3 authentic bomex...
im sure there are other solutions... you could take an ef corner lens, or clear signal marker and put it in your car...

Couldn't hurt to ask right?
I agree with Code Blue. But again I emphasize checking the local statutes on driving laws and such for how your car is "supposed" to be. Last week at least two buddies of mine with aftermarket bumpers ( one with no turn signals and the other with ghetto rigged signals ) were given tickets for non compliance. Sure it may not be a big deal, but its definitely a nuisance not worth putting up with.

Well, in the US, that bumper won't ever be legal, since you won't have front side reflectors, or side markers. Unfortunately, JDM style fender markers don't count, they're too far back. You need to have an amber sidemarker, and amber reflector. Those of us with clear bumper lenses are illegal because the reflector is missing, even if you use an amber bulb, so legality might not be an issue.
That aside, turn signals don't have to face to the side, only front. They can either be on or off normally, as long as they blink brighter if they are normally on (like stock lights do). And they can be white or amber. Yes, white front turn signals are perfectly US legal, though your state could have a separate law.
I would never use a fog lamp as a blinker, its too bright. That 55 watt H3 (or whatever similar bulb) is going to burn out so fast as well. Blinkers are supposed to be 15 watt when they blink, and 5 watt if they are constantly on when not blinking. But I would think a rebased (or any other way to fit one) 1157 (or 1156) in a fog lamp housing would work fine.
You could also get a real turn signal lense, instead of using fog lights. Like a 94-95 Accord turn signal, and just be creative with the mounting. I mention those because they're rectangular, and wouldn't be too hard to rig up, in my opinion.
There should actually be enough power on the OEM turn signal wires to drive a 55 watt bulb, but you'd be best using a relay. They're a few dollars, do it right instead of risking burned wires.
And I've seen that bumper on cars before, and the owners had rigged up turn signals in the side openings, behind a grill. Not sure what kind of light they were using, but it was rectangular, like an older civic or accord bumper lense. Can't say its my cup of tea, but I won't tell you what to do with your car. Good luck with whatever you decide.
