Default R SAVED MY LIFE A FEW DAYS AGO!

Yea so I did something stupid and i learned a valuable lesson from it.

I was driving on a long straight road going to school the other day and I was putting my hat on while I was driving. Well ahead there was one of those blind spots where you can't see over the hump of the hill. The speed limit was 50 and i was cruising at about 60.

Any rate, I looked it the rear view mirror for a split second to make sure the hat was on straight cause I have a issue with crooked hats. Long story... But anyway, I looked up for one second. When I looked back down there was a line of cars 25-30 feet in front of me dead stopped at a redlight.

Keep in mind I was going nearly 60. I slam the brakes. THANK GOD for R's braking ability, ABS, and Michelin tires for sticking to the ground. The car was sliding a bit, but the tires and ABS really hung to the road.

I was approachign the guys back bumper in front of me and the only thing I thought was turn the wheel. I took one tenth of a second to look right and make sure no cars where there and jerked the wheel right at the last second. I waited to jerk the wheel so it would have time to slow down and I wouldn't lose control of the car. I went from 60-0 in about 34 feet. My front bumper was at his passenger rear wheel when the car came to a complete stop.

Needless to say I was really shaken up but I am ok, and the R is ok no damage at all. I learned a valuable lesson and I guess God helped me out a bit to. Just wanted to share in case any of you have a problem not paying attention when driving. The most unexpected things can happen!!

Cliffs: Keep you eyes on the road.

Glad to hear you're ok. I've had close calls like that, also. Not very fun at all... Keep it safe

glad to hear that you were ok and you saved an ITR from going to a junk yard

BTW, in a case of real emergence, I could go from 60-0 in 0.1 ft

Could anyone beat that?

I think this should go under the category of "not talking on a cell phone while driving" also Nice save, it sounds also as bad as my rainy day experience last week.

Probably it was from:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">there was a line of cars 25-30 feet in front of me dead stopped</TD></TR></TABLE> +
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">My front bumper was at his passenger rear wheel when the car came to a complete stop.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Maybe he wasn't really going hard 60mph at the time, maybe coasting uphill (since he mentioned the blind spot)... who knows... even if it was 50mph,45mph @ 50ft... I'd still be shitting bricks coming up to a line of cars that you thought weren't there Plus, I'm sure everyones powers of distance estimation are dulled when their life is flashing before their eyes...

But still... not wrecking your R (or getting hurt) =

Plus, he never said "y0 our aaaRRs are soo l33t, I juZoutbr0ke a p0rsch3"

(Cliff's notes: ITR does it in 115ish... 5ft more than what what you say the porsche does )

you're lucky you didn't get oversteer.

these cars could be so much more with an ESC system.

I did something like that on a freeway when I was in college. '86 grand am on shitty tires. I was tuning the radio at the time. I was doing 65 and looked up to see a stopped car 30-40 feet from me. I did a completely blind emergency lane change to the right, got on the brakes and had time to stop where the next lane had backed up.

Heart attack!

Thank god I didn't touch the brakes until after changing lanes, it got loose as it was. Also thank god I didn't hit anything.

-Chris

Man, that isn't ****.

I was T-boned by a Dodge Ram 2500 doing 40 mph while in my R.

Walked away with no injuries.

no that is a good example of the R saving your life.
