Default Building a log mani.

Getting ready to build my log mani.

Its for a ZC (garrett T25).

My questions are:

1.)Is 3/8" (10mm) thick enough for the turbo and exhaust flange?
2.)what internal diameter steam elbows and t's must I use and what wall thickness?
3.) Using a stick welder, what thickness rods are best? 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm (Sorry about the metric, but I stay in South Africa).
4.) I'm getting the flanges cut for me, whats the cheapest way to do this? Plasma, laser, waterjet, torch?

Sorry bout all the questions, just don't want to mess this up!
I'm planning to get the faces surfaced after the welding. (good idea? )

Thanks in advance.

3/8 will be ok for a small turbo. The cheapest cut flange will be cnc plasma or laser.

i dont know how much shipping will kill you, but you should oreder your flanges from e-bay or a sponsor on here. that might actually be cheaper than if you had only one made at a machine shop.....

that helps a lot thanks! One more question though, I see that they're stainless steel according to that diagram, I was under the impression that it was a cast mild steel fitting? Does it have to be a stainless steel fitting? Also, what welding rods would be a good match so I dont burn holes like I always do?

You can get them in stainless or mild, and you can get the flanges in stainless or mild. Just depends what you want. IMO metal this thick doesn't need to be stainless, it won't corrode through.

Are you going to stick weld it? Just use regular mild steel sticks. You are not going to burn through schedule 40.

If cost is a concern I would go with the stainless fittings. As strange as it sounds, stainless fittings are actually cheaper than carbon (mild) steel, at this time.
