Default Help with 91 hatch problems

Alright well I searched but nobody seemed to be having the same problem as I am. A buddy of mine is driving a 91 civic hatch(no tach). 98,xxx miles on it. It's the factory motor completly stock with the stock 4-speed tranny. Well on to the problem. When going down the road everything is fine untill about 2500-3000 rpm's or about 15 mph, after that the motor seems to get a lot louder almost like it's hitting vtec except with this kind of grinding noise. It does it in every gear that we've found.

Problem 2: When sitting still and you put the clutch and put it into reverse quickly it grinds really loud and sounds like reverse is being ripped out of the tranny. Makes a spinning noise with the clutch in but if you let the noise stop it goes into reverse no problem.

Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

ok well lets establish a few things hes got a civic standard with a 4 speed tranny. The tranny sux. D series trannys are real cheap people give away dx 5 speeds so i would pick one of those up. you have to explain this noise better than how you are. What do the spark plugs look like? Is the firing order right on thie dizzy? Can you do a compression test yourself? Check the compression It sounds like its got a comp leak and it needs a valve adjustment badly. Rev the car with your head under the hood and locate the noise better and repost.

c'mon man if he has a four speed you can't just go buy a five speed and pop it in... you need 4speed axels and hubs, look for another four speed bro your **** is shot

yea um no i have a civic std and i switched my 4 speed to a dx 5 speed with the same axles it came with and the same hubs and it worked fine. Oh and wanna hear something else crazy i did i used the same axles and hubs again with an SI tranny. Do you want to know why because on EF's the inner axle that goes into the tranny is the same size and there is no need to change the hubs if you can still use your axles right? Owning one and reading about one is 2 different things.
