Default Anyone actually lost power after bumping up their timing?

I couldnt really find any dyno charts to show differences. Mine is pretty much maxed right now (about 19 degrees) but it feels kinda sluggish on the top end. Im running a thin head gasket so I would think it would help rather than harm, but who knows. I noticed this after adjusting the valves and bumping the timing, so I it could be related to the valve clearances being so tight too. Just curious.

I am also having a little timing issue due to a milled head(same situation with your thinner head gasket). For some reason I was under the impression that you would retard the timing when milling the head or going with a thinner head gasket?? I may be totally off, but would like to know also. Ryan

if your knock sensor is engaged then you will feel your car lose a bit of power. I was also under the impression that you would retard the timing when you mill the head or install thin HG.

Yep, the ECU will retard the timing if the knock sensor detects a knock.

i have tested 16,18,19,20,21 on the dyno, and found 16 worked best for me.

was this because of the knock sensor going off at 18 BDTC or higher?

I tried 16 17 and 18degrees advanced and found a big difference even between 17 and 18 degrees, the power delivery was so much smoother at 18deg...i tried uppping it to 19 20 and 21 but things just got worse so its spot on 18 degrees now.

Every car is different.

I'm assuming you're talking about base timing?

16deg +/- 2 is what is helms recommended.

I have gone 21-22deg with spec b's and a p73, but that was just for my tune.

You really want to run the lowest timing you can - while still making the same power.

Using hondata, I've advanced timing across the board and after a certain point, you will start to lose power. Back it off till you gain that power back. If you keep backing it off, you will start to lose power again. There's a sweet spot with timing - just like there's a sweet spot with fuel. Too much or too little won't make as much power as just right.
