Default skunk2 im help

So my buddies and I installed my Skunk2 IM last night. Everything looked okay. We started it and it instantly ideled at 3k. Any ideas? I know its not the throttle cable. There may be a vacuum leak. Is it possible to switch the plugs on the TPC and MAP sensor ( the sensors on the top and left of the throttle body). Any pics of completed installs would be great too.

I don't have a spot to put the hose running off of the fuel pump either. My JG IM doesnt have a spot for it on top of the TB.

you gotta adjust your throttle screw.

there is a Screw on the Throttle body that is covered up in gray paint, scrap off the paint and turn the screw to adjust the idle.

If you think you have a vaccum leak, you can check by spraying carb cleaner around gaskets and hoses. if there is a leak the rpm will SPIKE when you spray around that area.

Good luck. I had some trouble doing mine at first until i fixed all the problems.

sweet thanks, I'll try it tonight. I didn't know that the adjustment screw would allow your idle to fluctuate so much.

Do not adjust the throttle screw. If you just swapped everything over from the stock IM to the Skunk2 then the idle screw should not be messed with unless there is a problem with the throttle cable. By adjusting the idle screw you are compensating for a vacuum leak.

What engine is this IM going on BTW? If this is a GSR what throttle cable and pulley are you using?

Did you use the throttle plate that was on the TB? Are you using a Type R throttle cable? I had a problem on my GSR when I installed my IM because the throttle pulley that I put on was holding the plate open a tiny bit and letting air in there, thus raising the idle.

Were you able to get all of the stock IM gasket off when you installed the new one? Did you get a new gasket for the TB when you installed it? recheck all your vacuum connections and spray some WD40 around the IM gasket and other gaskets to see if there is a leak. If there's a leak then the idle will change when you shoot it with fluid.

For some pics check out the BLOX IM Install How-To in my sig. The install is almost identical to the Skunk2 IM install.

Your page is great and very helpful. Do you know about the other thick hose coming off the fuel pump and pops into a lead coming off the top of the GSR TB? My JG TB doesnt have a lead for it so I just have the hose sitting there in the open atmosphere. any suggestions?

you talking about this hose in the pic?

If so, that isnt for fuel that is for the EVAP Purge, the Carcoal Canister.

BTW, if you got a JG TB I think that Idle Air Screw doesnt have any gray paint on it.

Honestly, I think it would be worth a try to try adjust it, just make a mark where the original setting is so you can put it back if it doesnt help.

Yea, I think he's talking about the line running from the charcoal canister, not the fuel pump. The only fuel lines are the one running from the fuel filter to the fuel rail and then the return on the otherside of the fuel rail.

Now that I think about it, it may be your throttle body idle screw. Did you just install this new TB with the new IM? If so, then the idle screw may not be preset and it may be letting too much air go through. You may want to try adjusting that. Normally when you have a vacuum leak your idle will surge and drop, like go from 1500 rpms to 3000 rpms and so forth. The vacuum builds up, it leaks, and then drops down again. If you adjust that idle screw down and the idle stays steady then that may be your problem.

Yep thats the one I'm talking about. What do I do with the hose? Do I need it? Hahaha nope there is no gray paint on the adjustment screw like OEM. Good heads up though, thanks

if your TB doesnt have this, I think there should be a nipple on the rear side of the manifold where you can hook it up, you might need to make an adapter though, i think the Skunk2 manifold nipple is really small.

well I swapped out the MAP sensor and IACV and it brought the idel down. Now all I have to do this weekend is just bleed out all the air pockets in the coolant because the idal is fluxiating. The same thing happen to my 2 buddies. We bled out the coolant and it worked great. Haha keep my fingers crossed, hopefully its the same case for me.
