SRR S1 rebuilding?

After several vain attempts at contacting various dealers/distributers of SRR products, I'm left with making a post that will most likely turn up nothing, but it's worth a shot:
On the car I recently bought, there were SRR S1 coilovers. An extremely stiff setup, I had no desire to keep them over my BC RSDs. In selling them though, I find out that there's this weird clunking from the rear, which on the drive home we attributed to some installation error. We're not entirely sure what the problem is, and have so far been unable to contact anyone at SRR. Anyone have any ideas, or on some bizarre chance a diagram of that particular shock?

I thought that at first too, but we put them on another car with a different exhaust and there doesn't seem to be any problem with clearance. I'm not worried about shock functionality as there don't seem to be any weird handling traits. That clunking is just kind of annoying

I had the same problem with mine from the rear, re-torque your upper shaft nut (the nut holding the shaft and top mount together) mine came loose after a few months. i added a locking nut on top too. And good luck getting them rebuilded. mine started to leak after 4 months and i contacted a srr dealer here, and they said too bad.

Maybe its your rear swaybar? I had a bad clunking in the rear, and it turns out the swaybar-to-endlink nut was coming loose, allowing the endlink to slowly slide out. Also make sure there is no up-down play in the spring, and like untuned said, check that upper 19mm nut.
I don't know how careful you guys were with swapping the SRR's from car to car, but perhaps the locations of the spring and lower mounts were altered during the swap, making it clunk on your car and not on the other.

They've been apart, put back together, and properly tightened like 4-5 times now. The swaybar can't be it because one of the cars doesn't HAVE a rear swaybar. As for swapping process, nothing at all was adjusted during the process, but even if it was, it clunked on both cars, donor and receiver.
I have the same problem with my srr s1's. I have no clue what it is. and have tried to contact srr myself, with no luck. If you ever find out let me know. I think that perpetual concepts either here, or on jdmc are dealers of srr products and seem like good folk. Good luck
It started right from the get go. That is the only complaint that I have with the s1's. Ohhh ya, also they are stiff as fawk. Bumps suck but corners kick ***. Lets find the solution to this problem, so I don't have to try to explain the problem over and over again when some one rides in my car.

If yours clunked from the start that sounds like it might just be how they are. The stiff as fawk thing, yeah, nothing you can do about that other than maybe change the spring rates. I know we got airborn on the way home from MI, and my buddy who has them on his car now also got airborn on the way to Mid-Ohio. This is just driving regularly on the highway and hitting a bump.
my car has seen it's fair share of airtime. And the potholes really suck. I think it is fair to say that the s1's push the limit of streetability. These coilovers belong on the track where there aren't any bumps, so we don't have to worry about the noise. To tell you the truth, I have no clue what the sound is. But I am pretty sure it is coming from the upper pillow ball mount. It seems to be louder from the passenger side and has never gone away.
