3 inch Thermal on all motor car?
did anyone do this? i was thinking about it because i know my car has lots of back pressure....i think i have 2 1/4 exhaust right now but i have a b20/vtec.....i was thinking of doing this but i was wondering how loud it would be? i want to turbo the car eventually so i might as well get a "turbo" exhaust right?
2-2.25 is the biggest for N/A you are ever going to need.
You will actually lose alot of your torque and power in the low end if you opt for the bigger turbo exhaust. Its up to you. To get a turbo exhaust put on your rex only takes a day. Keep the exhaust till you get the turbo kit all ready and fixed up first before you do the exhaust.

mebe 2-2.25 on a stock motor but most built motors breath alot better with a good 2.5" exhaust.

3" is crazy and is a great way to lose power. On the A6 2" is optimum, and 2 1/4 for a B16A or gsr. A b20 vtec is fine at 2 1/4, you'd have to dyno to see if any power would be gained with a 2 1/2, but thats pushing it for a 4 cylinder all motor.

yeah why do cars run faster if you drop the exhaust? well you leave it on the car but you just unbolt it from the header....try it...my friends time dropped from 14.4 to 13.6....not shitting anyone....
open header cuts the travel of the flow in half, which will show gains. but can you drive that on the street? i did it once to get to the place to have the cat flange welded and it was actually annoying to be that loud, im really lucky a cop didnt stop me bc i would have been very fucked.
2.25 - 2.5 has been found to be adequate for most N/A setups on the street for our cars... and not sound like complete dogshit. around here when i see a 3 inch i know im going to win... bc they arent boosting and they think an MSD Ignition is the most important mod you can make to a car.
true the bigger the exhaust the more it will flow, but there is a point at which you start to lose power, plus its going to get louder and more shitty sounding the bigger you go.
unless your supercharging or turboing, then theres actually more air trying to get out the smaller space. which can choke the setup.
if youd like to experiment with a dyno and a bunch of exhausts be my guest. If you know you want boost i guess just buy the thermal, youll need it at that point anyway.
could fab up one of these bad boys:

total stunna. all chrome.

i was only joking. yea well then buy big but its gonna be LOUD.
once my 2.25 RSR cat back broke in fully its really loud at WOT above 5k. i wouldnt want it any louder then it is now.
i cant stand **** when it sounds like a mac truck, because honestly, its only a civic. sorry to be a *** and say that, but you better be running low 12's if you car sounds like most civics in my area.
the way i look at it, this guy brad lives around the block from me, has a ferrari 360 modena, with a basically straight exhaust, it sounds like a boeing 747 going down the street, my best friend gene drives a 2003 corvette z06 with a basically straight exhaust, at idle it sets off car alarms in a 20 foot radius, but all motor he ran 11.4 at englishtown last summer on drag radials.
now im not all on their jock, i mean good for them. i drive a crx bc i like the car, and i couldnt afford the insurance on one of those yet. i hope to one day compete with cars like that, thatd be really cool. but to have an annoying buzzing overly deep exhaust on a car that doesnt perform like those, doesnt make sense to me.
i might gain a .1-.2 on the 1/4 mile with a 3 inch thermal but the sacrifice of the near stock appearence and sound at lower rpm (remember cops are very biased against us) isnt worth that to me.
its only MY opinion, and certainly not a fact.
and for you guys who are boosting, you NEED the flow and i totally understand why you have to do it. im not hating so dont think that.

nah my car now isnt that loud....i have a ultra flow muffler on it ... and a tip .... but if i do put a 3 inch exhaust on it i know i could back it up ...... unlike my friend who has a stock 240 and has 3 inch piping you can hear him from like a mile away comming and it sounds like raspy **** coming down the road.....
oh yeah it is....its been running for almost a year now......but my exhaust broke where it comes out of the muffler....like the tailpipe section i guess....the welds for the muffler failed.....but yeah...its good....did 12s
