Default All I can say is: I'm hooked!

I competed in my first solo II autocross event today in Camden, NJ. I am hooked, and I am not going back to drag racing. I met everybody there that is from honda-tech like RacerMike, CivicSiRacer and a lot of other people. I had a blast and can't wait to attend the next event. I only had one other car in my class. I went off course twice and finished twice. My best run was a 45.775 second run.

thanks for all the help and support guys. It was just great!

thanks again,

aj

Glad you had a good time! It was good to meet you...I LOVE the sound of that BOV!! Hmmmm....turbo in my future?

I still can't believe we live in each other's backyard and we've never seen each other on the street. Anyhow, I'm sure I'll see you around.

Mike

Well, all I can say is, now you have to try a driving school - track event.

If this got you hooked, you'll go down line and sinker

yea..I was researching the FATT (Friday at The Track) events, and it says that you have to have a roll bar to race. Is this true?

thanks,

Geezs and you wanted to sit the first one out! Yeah it's the thrill of speed and tires screeching and standing on the brakes till your front lip touches the pavement!!! Oh wait till you've gotten thru about 5 to 8 events and your driving skills start to improve and you begin to feel apart of the car carving into the big sweeper and then feel the weight transfer back and forth thru the slalom and braking hard before you turn. Oh it gets real addictive real fast too!!!!!!!

Welcome to the family Eh!!!

Well, FATT isn't racing, it's just driving fast around a road course. No times, no finishing positions....

For FATT, you only need a roll bar if you have a convertible. It is highly recommended to have a roll bar or cage if you do open track events a lot. It's a safety thing.

AJ,
It was good to meet you, Grimm and Caroline. I must admit your car DOES sound great

There's an autocross school in Philly (same place) in April. Evolution School - http://www.autocross.com/evolution

The price is $220 per school (one on Saturday and one on Sunday) you can do one or both. My friend and I are doing Class 1 and Class 2.

Mike

Woo Hoo, another one that is hooked in MD...hahahaha. Hey Mike, bring him down the the NASA event on Feb. 10th. Really open up that turbo on some fo the straights at VMP. Eric and I are setting the course up. I have yet to see what Eric is designing, but should be fun.

BTW, who had the Mini up there?

I don't know man, but he sure was quick. That wasn't even the Cooper S and he was runnin' 41 sec. times.

What's going on Feb. 10? What is VMP? I am interested.

thanks for the pics Mike,

go to http://www.nasaracing.net and go into the autocross section. VMP is Virginia Motorsports Park, just south of Richmond. it is a little bit of a haul, but well worth it. I live on the south side of Baltimore, so you are in my area. It is a HUGE lot. and great people. You have ot preregister though. Go to the site pick an open spot in a heat and follow the directions to pre-reg. If it is full, don't worry, get on the wait list...they always have spots that open on the day of the event. I will be going down early, but I am sure there are a few from the area that are goiing to be going that would be happy to meet you and let you follow them down.

heheh.. so you're the turbo guy.. I have to admit that I liked the sound of the turbo too! hehehe.. Man was that a crazy attendance levels or what?!?! That's about twice the typical attendance for a winter series event.. of course, temperatures in the 50's didn't hurt. I was the green Integra sedan running 2nd/4th heat.. sorry I didn't get to meet you..

Heheh.. here's an interesting bit.. brought a friend with me for his second event.. after his first event he sold his Saturn SC2 and bought a Subaru WRX... hmm.. While we're setting up, I reminded him,
(condensed version--)
me:"Remember, the WRX is in a different class.. you won't be E Stock anymore.."
him: "Oh yeah, I remember, you were complaining about it being in the same class as you.."
me: "Yeah, but it's not in G-Stock anymore.. 2002 rules put it into D-Stock"
3rd person: "No, the WRX is not in D-Stock.. it's STX."
me: "What? What do you mean it's not D-Stock? New rules say WRX is D-stock.."
3rd person: "We're not running the new rules.."
me: "Why not??"
3rd person: "Well, do you have the new rulebook? We don't have a rulebook for the new class structure, so we're not running it yet.."
me: "mm..okay.. What the heck is STX then? I've never heard of it before.."
3rd person: "It's a new class for the WRX on street tires.."
me: "Huh? What do you mean? What are the rules for STX?"
3rd person: "I don't know.. we don't have the rulebook for it yet.."

am I the only person that finds that funny?

I guess I need to look into what the heck STX is..

Okay, they aren't running the 2002 rules, but they are running the new-for-2002 STX class??? If the "3rd person" was the infamous Steve Rosenberg, it makes sense. I don't have a whole lot of respect for that guy -- long story why not.

Anyway, to give you the Cliff Notes version, STX is a new class that is basically between STS and SM. Street tires are required, like STS, but you can add a limited slip, motor mounts, and some other stuff that was restricted in STS. Basically, ask slowSER about his DSP Sentra set-up, and that's what's allowed.... right, Pat?

My personal opinion on STX is that it was created to give a street touring class for the WRX.... after all, Subaru is a major SCCA sponsor/partner now, and can't be having only the old cars being successful....

I was thinking that too, but I was afraid everyone would think I was a conspiracy theorist if I said something..

I'm tending to agree that at least for right now, a well-developed WRX looks to be a good candidate for STX. Let's just say that I had a pretty fast STS driver inquiring about a co-drive for the class, and if I had a small fortune to spend on the suspension and motor work, the car would've been seen on Volks and SSRs wearing Falkens or BFG KD's in various gear ratios.

Plus... since SCCA seems to be looking into about cat-removal/replacement for STX, that will uncork a LOT of power if they let the WRX drivers uncork it from the turbo back, since it already has 1 cat BEFORE the turbo and 2 after.

Chris
DS WRX which DOES NOT HAVE EXTRA TURBO BOOST despite what people around here keep insisting upon.

And that "pretty fast STS driver" wouldn't have the initials.... R.W., would he?

I made a little movie from yesterday's events.

I hope you guys can see it.

The video footage is a little crumby though because my friend took the footage and she was behind the fence which messed up the autofocus though.

enjoy,

aj

edit: hold on, imagestation is giving me troubles at the moment

Sup guys, I met a lot of people there on Saturday, I had 3 friends all bail out on me so I went up alone It was still a blast. I was the guy 18 leather jacket just wondering around. I saw AJ but I left after his second run so I didn't introduce myself, REAL nice car by the way. another question AJ, what's that real big shiny radiator in the front for and why does it sound like your car has a vacum leak? I was mad when I decided not to run the first time, I wish I had it looked like sooo much fun. I'll be there next time sporting my integra on the track, should be loads of fun. I saw that green integra I didn't know you were a member here too? You had some seriously loud tires! Next time you guys should all wear name tags I didn't know anyone. see you guys at the next event.

Dan Cole

ps. Carefull driving to Phili from MD, I got pulled over twice and got one ticket 60 in a 55 and yes I wrote that right. He said my car "looked fast"

Hey Dan,

Sorry about the tickets man. I know how ya feel. I have started to use the cruise control now because I had nine points on my license from speeding. To answer your questions. The big radiator on the front of my car is called an intercooler. My car is turbocharged and the intercooler is used to reduce the temperature of the intake air to allow me to gain more horsepower and increase the boost. And the leak you hear is from my blow off valve. It is used to prevent compressor surge. It opens up when I let off the gas.

I did have a blast there and this was obviously my first event. I hope to see ya at the next one!

later guys, and drive safe!
