Default Cluster problem.. gas gauge? speed sensor?

Heres my problem, I recently bought a jdm itr cluster, and the gas meter does not read correctly and it seems as if my speed sensor is messed up. When i start up my car, the gas meter would go all the way to F and go back to E and stay there, and occasionally my speedometer would go all crazy going from 0-180kms back and forth. The cluster I had before had the same problem minus the gas meter problem. Is the gas meter caused because of a defective cluster? and the speedometer problem, would replacing the speed sensor solve the problem? thanks.

i think there's a difference between obd1 to obd2.........if yours is a obd1 car and your cluster is obd2, you need to change the green film or take out the cluster(which one is easiest for you) and swap it into the obd1 cluster.......vice versa

Yeah, the speed sensor definately sounds like its bad. Mine shakes a little bit to, i did pull my cluster just to do a JDM amber cluster project, and it still shakes(thought reconnecting the speedometer cable would fix that, i was wrong. Had a feeling speed sensor was bad.) Anyways, i've heard you can clean the speed sensor (located on your tranny) with some brake fluid cleaner, i've also heard that this doesnt work and will need to be replaced.

If it does indeed need to be replaced, the part is about 200, atleast in WA ( the state with the highest mimimum wage, so dont tell me i'm getting ripped off) I don't believe it's to hard to install your self. Only one of the few cables that comes out of your firewall.

For the fuel needle. Hard to say, if it is a bad cluster, that really sucks. On my brother's civic, when he went to put on his indiglo guage's his fuel needle just popped off, I guess it wasn't in there very good in the first place. But he had to get a new cluster all together.

Either way, it sounds like your going to have to spend a little bit of money to get these problems fixed.

Good luck

And PM me if you have any more questions.

Just try replacing the green film on the back. Switch it with your previous cluster's film.

Would swapping out the green film work? Im OBD2 so is the cluster, but when swapping the green film in the back, will it still read correctly? beign that one is in KM and the other is in miles? Thanks for the input all.

just screw out all the jdm guages and put it into your usdm cluster.....that way its reading under the usdm green film and you can use your cruise control plug too.....
