Default NO VTEC

I have a 1988 crx dx with a b16 and no vtec. I did some searching found out that it could be the tps. then did some more searching and found out that the check engine light was on because the tps was bad. well i replaced the tps had it recalibrated and now the car drives allot better but the vtec still kicks on and off. the car drives great no stalls and no bogging. this is really starting frustrate me because i spent all this money and im getting nothing out off it.

code 17 - no speedo no vtec
code 7 - tps

when you fix your codes your car will run much better... and vtec will work i would sugest you do a search about your tps, and check the cable going into your vss its common that they just wont sit right and you gatta mess with them a little

TPS should point down as pictured here..

If it points up,that is most likely a DX tps which won't work...

does the speedometer work or not?

The VSS is located on the transmission. In the back of your guage cluster the speedo cable that plugs into the back of the cluster runs into the top of the tranny. Do you have the Vtec soli grounded? Does your cars temp guage work?

yes the grounds are good, the speedo works fine but kinda jumps around when you first start rolling. the only other thing that confuses me when the car heats up while im on the highway and i use my left turn signal the temp Gauge jumps up and the bright light signal comes on. they are also very dimly lit when the car is cold.

Check your grounds. I would say something is up with your grounds. I had a similar problem with the turn signal bright thing. It turned out to be my Engine block ground. I also tightend my neg battery cable.

Also, make sure your vss cable is all the way in. I had a bouncy Speedo, it turns that it wasnt pushed in all the way.
