just looking for an answer.someone told me that vtec works different if the cars not running right.for example if the check engine light is on the vtec could be weaker than if the car was running perfect.can vtec run at diff %'s or is it all or nothing.

Some CEL codes will put the car in limp mode and then there is no vtec at all.

also, if you don't have enough oil pressure (will be detected of the oil is under MIN, or MAX), then you don't have VTEC...

it has 7 safetys...first was mentioned...
2. also there is water temp. that must be over 70°C! (not sure if the temp. is right?!)
3. you must go faster than 13km/h or 8mph!
4. clutch must be released!
5. no CEL! (or no engine error codes)
6.
7.

i have a chipped p30 tuned with crome. i removed the speed check and now vtec engages when i rev the car when parked up. completely pointless, but you can clearly hear it enagaging, its kinda cool............in a not so cool kinda way....

Yes, let's get this off right.

VTEC is 100% BINARY

It is either ON, or OFF.

There is NO middle ground. No "weak" VTEC, etc., either on or off.

Your friend that told you this is a ricer .

It depends on the CEL, I've had CEL's for secondary O2 and MAP and still had vtec, but those are the only 2 CEL's I have ever had

VTEC it's not supposed to run on no output...the problem is that around 7-8000rpm inertial forces on the cilinders become dominant!! that means that it could easily get over-reved...

2SlammedDC2:
well that is beacuse the VTEC doesn't need the O2 sensor imputs in VTEC...and it can run without MAP, 'cause VTEC is predefined with maps!!
