Default Timing Adjusting Issues - need help

Just checked my timing last night on my JDM D15B. It has been runing like shiz so I went out and got a timing light to check timing. According to the light set at "0" the timing was exactly at 0BTC. I loosened the distributor and twisted it toward the back to I guess advance the timing. I cranked it back as far as it would go but I could only get it to 14BTC...and I have read a lot that it should be at 16BTC.

Is there sonething that I am missing or is there something else jacked with my car because it is still kinda running like ***.

THX...

Yes - there are timing marks and the most I could advance it was 14BTC....
thats why I think that there is something jacked with the timing

Your belt could have slipped, or is not on correctly. Check your timing with the timing marks on the cam hear, and the tdc makr on your crank pulley. Tell us your results

well, when I got this motor I changed out the water pump and timing belt. I cant remember how I set it at TDC though... are the marks onthe cam supposed to be in line with the top edge of the block? Because there are some marks also underneath the cover that I might have set the TDC to...?

Wow...no response

There are two marks on the stock cam gear, they should be level with the head, along with the word "up" actually pointing up

Just set that, and set your crank to TDC

so is it supposed to be like the left or right image? This is from the online shop manual:

why would there be two different ways to set TDC?

Umm has anyone noticed I think he checked his timing wrong? As far as my Craftsman timing light, you are supposed to set the light to your specified timing, which would be 16 degrees. You set it at 0.

when I checked my base timing - I had the light set at "0"...
I still had the light set at "0" when I rotated my distributor to advance the timing which I could only advance to 14 deg MAX...
