Are the omnipower sports (12kg/mm front, 10kg/mm rear) too harsh for daily driving? I'll give you guys the scenario. I have been using the KYB AGX/ Spoon progressive spring shock and spring setup for the past two years (about 25,000 miles). I have no complaints about the setup. It is very streetable, it rides fairly well for a lowered car, and I can get the rotation that I want. However, part of me is yearning for something a little better. I have a set of omnipower sport coilovers sitting in my room waiting for my lazy a$$ to install them but I am a little hesitant because I have read that they may be a little too harsh for daily driving (I have to commute about 50mi each way) and I dont want to be worn out before I get to work. If they are too harsh I'll just sell them. My other option is to go for a set of koni's and match them up with my springs. Is this a waste of money (switching from the AGX to the koni yellows) and will I notice a big difference in performance (I kinda feel that the AGX's dont quite cut it for auto-x and I want something a little better). Thanks for taking the time to read this thread and thanks for your input
I've heard they are a lil rough for daily driving, but some peoples preferences are different. I guess you just have to try them on the see. Read Ben's write up https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1107294
Progressive rate springs are intended to provide a good mix between better-than-stock performance, and ride quality. I've read that they lead to unpredictable handling on the track, and although I'm not 100% sure why, I'm guessing its due in part to each corner riding on two different spring rates..
I've ridden in a 12k/10k equipped Civic, it is indeed very harsh. I drove on some harsh roads through, uneven pavement, lots of potholes and tarstrips, you could definitely feel everything. For a daily driver, I think that at first it might be bearable, but over time I would grow very tired of it. IMO the benefit it provides over a 10k/8k setup on the street with daily driving is outweighed by negative of sacrificed ride quality. While it might benefit more on the track, I might consider going with a stiffer rear spring rate for the track, where ride quality is not an issue at all and you could potentially use and benefit from oversteer, so maybe something like (outta my *** here) 10k/12k?
