Car died after hitting brake? SEARCHED
Hi,
First some background,
My starter recently failed in my LS crx, so I replaced it with an autozone starter. When I put the new starter in I had to have the old battery charged since it sat for many days before I was able to put the starter in.
I got the battery back in and the car still wouldn't start! So I ran a power wire directly to the starter and it spun perfectly. Messed with the battery cable and BAM started up(loose cable).
Then I noticed the lights slowly dimming and I"m thinking "oh crap, now alternator is going". So the first thing I do is check the grounds and they are horribly corroded. So I grab my wire brush and attack them, jump the car, meter the alternator and BAM 14.6 volts!
Finally able to drive my car again I jump in, notice my dash lights aren't on??? SO I check the fuse and it is blown, hmmm must of happened when I powerered the starter directly, no biggy. So I replace the fuse dash lights back
.
Put my put on the brake and the car stutters, lights dim, and car dies. Then the horn goes off for like 1 minute, stops!! WTF!!!??? So I check the brake/horn fuse, and its fine. Goto restart the car and it acts like the battery is completly DEAD! I JUST CHARGED IT. When I crank no sound from the starter but the lights dim
.
Sigh, please someone help me diagnose my problem, I'm not an idiot and I have a multimeter please direct me!
Thanks, Adam

Haven't had the chance to do that, but will try, any reason why it would only die when I hit the BRAKE? It idles fine otherwise makes me think its a short... :/
hey, sorry for buggin ya with wrong answers
but there could be a a wire grounding out somewhere? that happend to my dash lights/parking lights before.... if all fails maybe try jumping it like you said, whas the worst that can happen

Yeah thats what I think it is...... my battery is at 11.6 volts now and it won't turn over, the starter is clicking but it won't go, is 11.6 enough to start? or does it have to be full 12.6?
thanks
thanks

I dont know...for a battery to be considered fully charged and in good working order it should read 12.5 - 12.6. Anything lower is in need of some attention.

omg, i have the same problem right now, wen through tons of stuff today. Cannot find this problem out, happens for a couple days then will go away for a couple weeks. then come back. When i hit my brake, all my stuff gets real low, lights, and everything, and when i hit the brake my radio turns off then on. Im ready to buy a new car, because i cant take this problem anymore
UPDATE
I jumped the car and it starts up first and everytime with a jump, however, there is a huge spark out of the alternator when it is jumped?! Is that normal? Doesn't seem like it. Also, at the alternator, the Multimeter reads 14.6, but if I follow the wire to the fuse box it is 11.8 and drops slowly. The battery takes the full charge when jumped but it seems like my alternator wire is dropping voltage from the alt to the fuse box and not charging?
Would changing the wire fix that? Also, another weird problem and I"m sure somehow related. When I pump the brakes, the rpms rise like I'm hitting the throttle??!! Wtf. It will rise as high as 1500rpms and then stay there as long as I'm pumping the brakes????!!
I can't fix the car tonight cause I got no wire but first thing in the morning I'm gonna replace the wire and hope thats it, any thoughts on the brake thing would help imensley(sp).
Thanks, Adam
