Auto meter shift light how do you hook it up?
Not to be an asshat or anything, but I always thought it was always benificial to learn when to shift by simply learning how to listen to your engine rather than relying on a light to tell you. *shrug

I kinda agree Marc.. But some motors it's really hard to hear or feel when to shift. My 85 RX7 was very easy to hear when to shift, and my AE86, but the R is not... Since I have a decent exhaust on it now it's very hard to feel the power drop. So I have to watch the tach

Glad I didn't disappoint you. Anybody else have a problem?
Simple fact is, unless the guy is drag racing, what benifit would it be to have a huge light telling him when to shift. I also see it as knowing the car I'm driving, that much better not to mention I personally do not like taking my eyes off the road. Sorry you cannot see the logic of this.

Rob, I understand what the purpose of a shift light is for
It simply comes down to...bleh. Forget it.

You suck Brandon. (There, I said it.)
Pretty much every race car I've seen in-car video from, has a sequential shift light. It's so you DON'T have to take your eyes off the road, and can see the lights in your peripheral vision. I was looking at one for a while, the nice ones are pricey considering they're just a few LED's.

Then again there's a lot of street racers/ricers that have huge *** tachs because they look cool.
Here's an in-helmet shift light (odd..)

Here's steering wheels with built-in shift lights (also odd..)

I'd probably want something like this though.

I would put a pod in my caR before I put a whole tach in. I think they're pretty beneficial in every racing situation you are in.
On a side note, everyone needs to stop bashing Brando. We all post things that others don't agree with.

If you are on track and/or racing for position on track then sometimes you either cant hear it (other cars around) or you are so focused on other things that you just dont hear the damn engine. If a big *** shift light comes on - that you DONT have to take your eyes off the road to see, like the autometer units - it saves you from banging off the rev limiter.

some of us don't have dog ears, kinda hard to do with a helmet, ear plugs and maybe 2 way communication with the pits
example:
crew chief: come in, pits are open!
crew chief: i repeat, pits are open!
racer: shut the **** up, i'm trying to listen to the motor so i know when to shift
lmao
somebody tell the village down the road they can have their's back...
