Default The Good with the Bad.

I just thought I would update this dead thread with pictures of the bearing that decided to cause me so much grief... As the rebuild continues I have switched the rods from Eagle to Manley, pistons from JE to CP, and am upgrading the clutch to an Exedy twindisc, as well as a new hair dryer (GT3071??). Just out of curiousity, has anyone spun a bearing worse than that?

Previous Post:Friday was a glorious day, and a disaster both at the same time. I got my TE-37's back from the powdercoating shop that has had them since Vietnam. They looked amazing, however on the way to the shop, my engine developed an acute case of rod knock. So after tearing the motor down, the car is just sitting with the Volks on it with no heart.
I suspect the rod bearing failure was due to the excessive and drastic oil temperature changes I had been experiencing under full boost(240f). Or the use of Eagle rods which I am told distort under high rpm high boost applications, causing oil starvation.
Who knows, since I am a optimist, I am viewing this situation as a good thing because I always wanted my pistons coated by swaintech as well as my manifold. And now I have a reason for a Greddy Oil Cooler . Hopefully I can keep the downtime to under 2 weeks, and then get some better springtime pics up for fellow ITR peoples to enjoy.
By the way here is a link to my extra parts layin around, please check it out of you get a chance. (ITR/PR3 Head, etc...)

I was going to say, your front looks high enough that you might be missing a motor

I lost a couple of old GM motors (Iron Duke) to rod knock. That sucks.

240F is no problem for oil temp-- I run mine up to 260-265 with "no issues" at HPDE's. That's with an oil cooler with 15w50. I'm not worried about it, I figure N/A ITR's with no temp gauges run hotter Like they say, ignorance is bliss.

Are you going to get a baffled oil pan once it's all rebuilt?

I run a moroso oil pan now which is internally baffled, I am thinking about switchin back to a stock baffled pan.

For the oil temperatures, my understanding was anything above 240, it would be wise to explore oil cooling options.

Like I said, I am an optimist... I take this as good thing, it gives me a chance to correct some other issues I deemed necassary.

Nice wheels. itrsport.com has those wheels with same color and they look amazing on a black R. Good luck with your motor.

Just a reminder, if you plan on leaving the car outside, don't put a cover on. The paint would be all scratched up by the cover when wind blows on it.

No, it is definately not ITR206s old car. A similar setup but definately not the same.
99.9% the car sits in storage with the car cover... at the moment she is sleeping outside, I have the cover on because she is due for a buffing, and I want to keep prying eyes away. I feel you on the scratched car thing.

The wheels look fantastic!

I'm assuming they are 16x7, but what offset?

Good luck with the build

Unfortunately they are 17's (Bling-Bling) with a 42mm offset... I am in the process of aquiring a pair of 15" Te37's with for drag radials, and I will most likely use the JDM 16' with some RA1's for road racing...
