Default Hail Damage Questions...

Hey, my 99 gsr was murdered in a storm the other night when i was at work...very bad hail damage...i assume this is the right forum for discussing my car's looks. It has at least 300 dents...hood, both fenders, driver's side of the car (DUMB horizontal wind ), roof (thankfully there isn't much roof to begin with), and trunk. The car has cellulite...that should give you an idea of its current condition. There are also quite a few scratches from debris. I called insurance and will be getting an estimate on monday...anything i should expect? What do shops generally do to fix this much damage? I truly don't want some sorta filler in all those dents...it's not gonna cut it. Comments welcome on hail damage estimates, procedures, or experiences...i will post pics sometime soon...and then i will post pics when i get it fixed.

I've been talking to some people about this, but i'd like to hear a little more...as i really care about how my car is fixed.

your insurance company will probably estimate it between 1000-3000 to fix. if it is not paid off, they will hand you a check written to you and the shop you choose to fix it.

the shop you choose to fix it with is your biggest concern. if your car has a good paint job, make sure the bodyshop will fix it through "paintless dent removal" and not bondo and paint the car. some bodyshops will insist on painting it, and try to tell you that its the only way to go. that is not the case at all!

PDR takes half the time and saves the original paint, repaints chip faster and fade after just a few years. Plus a repainting a car kills its resale value in most cases. if you are super picky about your car, you may want to see some of the other cars that have already been fixed. not all dent guys are created equal. I've seen some do work so bad, it would have been better off with the dents still in it.

I'd like to see pictures, where in texas are you?

..... unless the damage is so bad they have to start replacing panels. where it looks like someone dropped 50 softballs off a 20 story building onto the car.

The car is not fully paid and there are lots of scratches now...along with hundreds of dents. I think the car needs a repaint in addition to whatever else is required to get the dents out...i will not accept a big bondo job...i spent too much money on this car to have a complete bomb after the storm...

I don't know...the car better look perfect when all is said and done...and i'm pretty sure the damage far exceeds $1000.

I'm in the austin area...hail was 2.5 inches diameter.

1000-3000 isnt much for the damage your saying, my brother had a 98 accord and got estimated 2200 with maybe half the dents i have or even lesss(i probably have the same amount as your saying) so i would say at least 3500. ANd you should have the option to go get estimate quotes, and find the most expensive one and get your check and have someone you know fix it for cheaper and pocket the cash, or just use the best place you get quoted from. By the way if you have hook ups like my bro , he got 1300 pocketed.

I've seen estimates get as high as 6500 for just paintless dent removal. 2.5 inches does sound like 3000+. can't tell until I see pics.

if the car looks like this, get it painted!

these dents can be fixed, but chances are that along the edges of the hood, roof and trunk, the paint is cracked. A smart bodyshop will replace the hood and trunk lid, mud the roof and have the sides done by PDR.

Staci's car is by far more then $1000 damage...I would say there are as many dents as on that neon...but the dents are alittle smaller in diameter. It looks like 50 people were driving golf ***** for 2 hrs at the side of her car. Well over 300 dents. JDM front will replace the front fenders, and hood. Replace the hatch and have PDR, and slight filling done on the rest is what I suggest. The roof is really not that bad. Maybe 5 dents. The drivers side 1/4, door and fender along with the hood are the worst.

A buddy of mine has an 04 civic EX that sustained hail damage...he counted 75 dents and they wrote him a check for $2300. Staci's car has triple the amount of dents that my buddies car had. I guess we will see tomorrow hun.

eg6ky- where would we find this Scott guy?

he made the statement to me yesterday that he was heading to austin tommorow, (meaning today) and that he was working for two shops and a dealership.
You'll know him when you see him, big muscular guy clean shaven with a hat on. He drives a black hummer h2 with 20's and mud tires, with lots of chrome. Iknow that might not help you much in such a big city, but hope you can do something with it. He's the man. Later

Damages are $4400...took the car in today.

I will be doing a jdm front since parts have to be replaced and the car is being repainted...this is going to be a long project...

I'll keep you guys posted...i plan to take pics of its current condition soon...and i will obviously take pics when finished.

A total pain in the ***, but i think the car will end up looking awesome when all is said and done.

Yeah, it's real gay, but this car was due for fresh paint...and now that the opportunity has presented itself, a jdm front will be coming soon.

Fix it yourself, I would i used to work for a body shop. It really isnt hard, i have done to many of the that hail damage crap it sucks but you really see what you have accomplished.

They take a dry erase marker and circle every little dent that you car has and them count them and determine the time it would to fix each one and if to much they will replace parts; fenders, doors, hood, and trunk. They dont like replacing the roof that sucks to pull out and replace so they sand it weld copper studs to it pull the dent then puddy it in prime, seal, paint, and clear its funs. But good luck on it.

Yeah i wanna keep it supersonic blue...i love the color...it'd look cool with a jdm front and my current wheels (mirrors). I can't fix it myself...i don't paint and i don't have that kind of time to spend on the car...
