Hi Ya'll - First Time Accord Owner Here
Howdy. As the topic states, I'm a first time Accord owner. I've been driving a loaded 1989 Toyota Cressida (a.k.a. "The Tokyo Drifter") for 2 months now, but my dad just recently bought me a black 1997 Honda Accord LX sedan to replace it (my brother gets the Cressida). I feel like I'm taking a loss by getting the Accord because it doesn't have as much HP, RWD, leather seats, or a sunroof (GRRRR), but I'm not gonna complain. The Accord is different animal than the Cressida. I've always had a fascination with '94-'97 Accords and now I'm gonna have one!
It should be ready to sometime next week (my dad's having a new tranny slapped in it). Anyways, I just thought I'd introduce myself. This seems like a cool place to be and to learn from. I'll have pics of it when it comes in.

Thanks for the welcome, ya'll!
I'm gonna see if I can put a cold air intake in it to give it a little more grunt. I remember seeing a thread about it around somewhere and my buddies are good with cars. I just need to see if I can get a good air filter for it, like a K&N. We'll see...

welcome to the odd, but useful family! haha. just search if you ever have a question and if u cant find it, ask us and youll most likely get an answer. buy the way, is it AT or MT?
I have a 96 also and like it a lot. I find myself driving my truck more now but I used to drive my car as my main car and still do just find it fun to drive in my lifted truck also so recently I haven't driven it as much but still a fun car. I have the EX which has some options I really like like the sunroof. From what I have read on here it doesn't seem like CAI's help the power on these cars a whole lot and basically just changes the sound. If you do go with one the best way to go seems to be to get the cheapest piping on eBay you can and get a K&N filter to slap on it.

Hometheaterman - Thanks for the CAI info. Even though the HP gain may be marginal, I might just try it anyway, just to say it's got a mod on it. It'll be a good learning experience.

Oh I didn't know about the better gas milage for this car didn't know you could tell a difference. Did know on the Dodge Rams they helped though. Is it much better on the Accords? I may have to put one on if it is. I would go for a cat-back exhaust though and since it is a LX maybe headers too.
yup i get get good mileage if you keep the rpms down and just cruise around
the flip side tho is if you keep them up the engine takes in more air burning more fuel faster but if you just drive normal its like tube feeding your accord it doeesnt have to work to get it

I just came from a 1988 Cressida to a 1997 LX and I am loving it. The milage is the main difference to me. The car seems as well built as the Cressida but not as quiet. The ride is just as good and I like the handling even though it is my first front wheel drive car. My milage has been about 27.5 mixed highway and around town. I have a tune up scheduled but I am not sure I'll see much of an improvement. Love buying regualar as the Cressida refused to run right on anything but high test. Good luck with the new car and Welcome.
