i am curious to see if anyone has put a fifth gen 3.285 first gear into a fourth gen trans. which has a 3.307. i know it will fit the countershaft because the specs are the same for both models. i was just curious if anyone had done this.

Some people have reported success with this, but I have been through the guts of several H-series trannies trying to put a taller 5th into a M2F4 and have not found swappable gears. The 5th gen may work, I have not seen inside one of those. Corey (honda318?) has done it I think, but I never got the details. If someone knows for sure which gears can be swapped, please post some details!

 

4th and 5th gen counter shafts are the same part number. main shafts are different though. this is one of my concerns.

 

well it wont work. tried today. i could have probably used the 5th gen mainshaft and swapped the 4thgen 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears over. i would have had to use the fifth gen 1-2 gears. i would have done this but i just replaced my synchro slider assembly a year ago and the set out of the 5th gen was beat up. i would have had to buy tha different 1-2 synchro set to fit the 5th gen gears, and i did not wont to spend the money. so maybe another time.
