Default 5 Speed Overdrive?

I have a 5th gen 5Speed. I have always thought that the 5th gen do not come with the 5th gear overdrive. But recentley ive been told that the 5th gen should come with the 5th gear OD. I have never seen overdrive in highway driving in my 5th gen. So im not sure if it really should come with OD? Could it have been modified?

No 5th gear is not an overdrive gear.

Overdrive (mechanics)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the popularity of front wheel drive cars, the separate gearbox and final drive have merged into a single transaxle. There is no longer a propeller shaft and so one meaning of "overdrive" can no longer be applied. However the fundamental meaning, that of an overall ratio higher than the ratio for maximum speed, still applies.[1] Although the deliberate labelling of an overdrive is now rare, the underlying feature is now found across all cars.

your 5th gear ratio is lower than 1:1 so technically yes, it is an "overdrive" gear. the rest of the Wikipedia article above does well to explain it in more depth if you're interested.

That makes sense, I guess its saving me gas somehow. Because at 80mph, my exhaust [well the fart cannon the previous owner installed] is screaming at 3600 rpms until i find the dead spot on the pedal.
