Pic request: Hood pins - best location?
Just got my CF Hood installed, still moving the weather-strip over.
Wondering if anyone can post up pics of their hood with pins.

Search didn't find much, althought I did find those NRG CF Pin Locks. Nice.

Those NRG locks and all of those barrel lock type hood locks are not meant to keep the hood down for racing. All of them have a disclaimer saying that they are not meant to hold the hood down at high speeds. Pretty much just for security.
Hood pins however are meant to hold it down during racing. I am installing some Mugen ones in the next week I can get pics after that.

Yeah i thought so too before I saw someone's hood flip up on a road course with those hood locks lol

But some hoods can lift at high speeds if hood pins are not used...a freind of mine installed a set after seeing his hood lift at the corners at speed. Better to be safe than sorry.

He says that because he has witnessed a hood fly up with those hood locks, firsthand.
I don't know about you, but that's enough proof for me.

I have the NRG hood locks and I am Very pleased with them
they seem Very stable at high speeds and yes I have road raced witht these installed and driven on the highway at over 90mph with them as well
I would make sure that the guy actually did lock the locks befor you start saying stuff b/c it would be kind of hard to break the part that holds the hood down and that would have to break in order for the hood to come up

I don't understand your motive for trying to argue their safety, but by all means go ahead and use them on your car.
I don't care, it's your windshield, not mine.

So the warning from someone with personal experience, combined with the safety disclaimer from the manufacturer itself isn't enough "proof" that these aren't a suitable hood pin substitute?
Just use proper hood pins and paint them black if you want a more subdued appearance. Besides, if you think using locks such as those is truly going to prevent access to your engine bay by a determined thief, you're mistaken.

NRG ones are knockoffs of the Mr Gasket ones that have been around for a while, the same ones JHP also used to sell. The Mr Gasket ones state specifically that they're NOT meant to secure the hood while driving or act as a replacement for the OE hood latch. Its more of a theft-prevention aid.
Hood PINs have been prooven for a while now, if you've got a CF hood I'd reccomend those.

Yea, as much as I like the clean look of no hood pins I also recommend using them. *shameless plug* My 94-01 Integra CF hood and Sparco hood pins are for sale. Hood used for 1 day, pins never installed. See sig for link.

You can kind of see where they're installed here.....
My advice is to get some good ones: sparco, momo, mugen?

APC are crappy and they don't slide correctly and snag - not cool.

anyway, there are some holes already above the lights and you can just use those. Use the ones closest to the outside corners of the hood for more stability.
Measure and cut the hood pins so they aren't too long underneath - you'll see what I mean. I took off about 1.5 to 2" of mine so they would clear the headlight housings while installed and still being straight up. Install them really low height wise and put some play doh or grease on the tip and slowly close the hood to see where to drill. Just take your time and drill only a little bit at a time until you get the fitment just right. Then install the upper pieces/ latches. Make sure you don't use screws in c/f as they will cause spiderweb cracks. Simply mark the holes and after everything is lined up correctly, use some double-sided tape to hold them on temporarily. THEN you can mark the spots where screws would go, and drill them out really small. Use rivets. DONE.

They're just crappy quarter turn fasteners. Imagine if you took out all the bolts in your car and put them back in... but only a quarter of a turn.
I am always amazed that people ask for advice they don't seem to want. Get what you want, but post pics when something goes wrong.

I'm running the same hood and have been thinking about getting some hood pins for it, the thing is so thin and flexable that after 2 years of owning it it eventually bent slightly out of shape. On the highway I can see the hood flapping a little in front of me, which is real scary

Thankx Black R,

That's exactly where I thought they should go.
I'm still having a few probs with the clips for the weather strip. Having to drill out hole, needed some extra ones (they didn't come out of the mold perfectly). But only very small 6mm holes and the thickness varies. Which makes it hard for these clips, as they were meant to hold the rubber to sheet metal.
Solution:- Trim clips. Seems to be working. Only a few more to go.
Then it on to building the legs for my CF Wing. Still doing the CNC drawing for the, foot, I supposed you'd call it. See the holes in the truck, Don't point straight forward. This foot thing will be like the adaptor, between the wing leg & the boot mount. Back to work......
Later.

P.S. For poor Black DC2R........She's making me feel cold. (Goes to get jacket..)
Just by the way. It's nice & warm here, about 28 degrees C. I don't think it ever gets that cold here. Not Sydney anyway........ Stay warm. That serious cold.
