Default Link to my WTB Needed: JDM ITR w/ LSD transmission 4.785 - 4.7 4.78 trans tranny

Hello everyone,

I am only putting this thread in the ITR forum for the hope that someone looked here first to see if anyone was looking for a 4.785 FD JDM ITR tranny or 4.4 FD USDM ITR transmission. Also, if I am lucky enough, I will be able to get this all bought and set up before the Expo.

Link: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1190630

I am a paid student this year for Expo 5 and would like to have a new transmission in my ITR. It's only because the tranny has been fawked up since I bought the car, and would actually like a perfect tranny. I told myself that I would buy a new tranny as soon as I took possession of the car, but all kinds of things had come up here and there and I never until now had this much saved up just for the transmission.

So please, anyone that would like to give a Expo student a hand, please do so and refer me along to the right people or yourself.

Thanks!
Ryan

EDIT: I added that I am also in the market for a 4.4 FD transmission.

FinaL EDIT: I found and paid for a USDM ITR tranny w/ ATS 4.928 FD, and now awaiting shipment.

Have you tried any shops that import motors from Japan?

I paid $1,200 for a practically new JDM ITR 98 Spec tranny with under 20K miles, but that was over 2 years ago. I'm not sure if the prices are still the same for that particular tranny.

Good Luck

That seems like the exact deal I had to watch come and go when i didn't have the money. Now, it seems like everyone either sells their tranny in less than 2 days, or else they are trying to make a profit off it once they use it.

Thanks for the info. And everyone keep me in their memory if you hear of a tranny, and let them know and let me know.

Thanks

Those 2 on Ebay, I have considered back and forth. I really don't want to deal with someone overseas if I am dropping over $1500. My market range is the $1200-$1300 range if anyone was wondering.

Thanks for the Encouragement.

That's an idea... but a new one will actually cost more, wouldn't it? I am almost willing to pick up a 4.4, but only if it can be had for $1000, so that way I can still do the FD swap.

Thanks
Ryan

I called 20+ of the importers(1month ago) that advertise here and what I could find in google. Of those, only 2 would even sell me a tranny, and they only had the 4.4s, and they both wanted 1500 plus shipping for them. I ended up buying a used 4.4 from someone here for way less and I have seen the FD for around 400 shipped. I will come out ahead even with buying the 4.7 later.

i agree with buying a new one... yes you are spending a little more... but.... you know you are getting a quality product. personally that's what i'm gonna do with mine and later add a 4.90 or 4.78

Again, Troy, thanks for giving me a bump here.

As far as having someone help me install this beast once I get my hands on it, that shouldn't be a problem.

If you remember awhile back, my friend that had been wanting to open up a shop. He finally accomplished this task. He even built a new building, has a lift, and a small crew working for him. He's even going to order me my T1R catback since he owes me some money, and may call it close to even.

Thanks for everyone's kind words... and lets see what can happen here soon.

Ryan

I have, but it just seems he wants premium prices for his transmissions. I would probably pay his prices if I had the money, but right now I don't. And I have dealt with him before, actually purchased a HID JDM front end from him a few years ago.

you might have already seen or know about this:
http://www.a-t-s-usa.com/ats-p...shtml

4th gear and 5th gear in the jdm tranny are taller than the 4th and 5th in the usdm tranny. not sure if you want that. just a thought.

Thanks kepani,

Does anyone else have insight to this difference in gears and what I will experience? Anyone with their experiences shared would be much appreciated.

Thanks

if you go with a jdm tranny, there's no real benefit vs. the usdm. *except for 1st - 3rd gears*

the jdm tranny has the 4.785 final drive gear, but since you've got a taller 4th and 5th, the effective gear vs. the usdm (4.4 fd and us 4th and 5th) are virtually the same.

i would suggest getting a used (or new) usdm transmission. then what i (and many many people have done here) would do is swap the jdm final drive gear (4.785) into the usdm transmission. you'll notice a difference right away.

Kepani,

Thanks for the wise/kind thoughts. I am always doing more and more reading about his issue, and actually never heard anyone put it this way.

Thanks!

no problem ryan_c. if you are looking for a new one, you ought to try contacting some of the acura parts guys on this board. user: len, or *are there others?*

i personally have the 4.929 final drive with a usdm tranny. it's a compromise between "fun" and what many itr owners are NOT too familar with; "gas mileage".

unless you're looking to match your current gas mileage, you'll defintely have fun with the 4.785 with the usdm gears.

I was going to ask the same question as far as the different FD gears available, and what the various gas mileage the different setups get.

Thanks Warwagon for bringing that up now, because it had slipped my mind for the short time this thread has existed.

If anyone would like to share the current setup w/ gas mileage noted, that would be great.

Thanks everyone!

mileage = same for me with 4.9 final and usdm itr gearset.

turbo on the other hand has brought it down quite a bit.

the ratio of the gearing isn't so much attributable to mileage as load is.....

i get about 1-2 mpg less that what i was getting vs. stock. i do drive really miserly while not on track and most miles are highway miles.

stock = 28mpg
ats = 26-27mpg

some other guys drive hard all the time and their mileage sinks.

ken (black r), do you drive similarly to me to get the same mileage compared with stock?
