110V welders are kinda weak. I'd atleast look for a 220V. I have a 220V myself, maybe I'll upgrade to a 400V one in few years
really...i didnt know that. obviously theres a reason im asking for 110v
.
i was planning on the lincoln 185, but dont have 220 in my garage. got a price quote on getting it there and itd be 2k$. my fuse box is at the other end of my house.

is your laundry room next to your garage??? mine is right inside the garage door so i just made up a nice extention cord thats rated at 45 amps i believe.....its pretty damn sturdy.......maybe you could do something like that???
I am going to assume you are in the same boat I am in and just don't have access to 220 anywhere. People who live in a Duplex with a garage often don't.
An additional problem is that there it is very rare to find a 110 volt circuit that is rated at more than 20 amps.... 15 amps are more common. For this reason I searched for the welder that had the highest output rating for the lowest input rating.
I ended up with the Clark MIG130EN, which only requires a 24 amp input. If I am using it at maximum output with my 20 amp circuit I just have to make sure I stay at low duty cycle to avoid tripping the breaker.
I have been able to weld some beefy steel with it, though aluminum is challenging at thicker than 20 gauge. I recommend it.

Sure, there's people that say they have done all kinds of things with a 110v machine...but there's people that use a weedeater to cut a half acre lot of grass too. It won't look near as good as a lawnmower, it won't be near as fast, and it will be very uneven and unpredictable.
Keeping in mind your limitations, you may not be able to afford the lawnmower...just don't expect to do as good of a job if you settle for the weedeater.

2K? Sounds like a joke to me. You know what it takes to in order to run 220v? a $15 fuse and about $40 for a 50ft roll of wire + a few $10 plug ins...
Go diy and wire it yourself...2k is a joke. IF you're worried abut running it all the way across your house, mkae a long extention cord and only run it when you're welding.

i dont think a 150 220v extension cord would be the best idea.

actually i do, and it's not my house, its my parents. the fuse box is in the basement underground so the wire would have to come outside the house first, then run in conduit 180 ft or so around the perimeter then shoved into the garage with another satellite fuse panel in the garage. and there are things called permits buddy. diy is not so legal where i live, and both my mother and stepfather are real estate agents, and my motrher used to own a building co. too, so they are totally anti non-permits. because insurance wont cover a diy job if a fire were to occur.
only joke i see in this thread is you.
oh and 50ft wouldnt even make it out of my basement.

for anyone else reading this thread, i am not a newb welder, i used to have a 130a 110v in mig, and had to sell it for some money a year ago. i know what theyre capable of, but mine wasnt the best dues to the fact that it was used, and i just want another.
but i am trying to convince mom to get me 220
this post was mostly pointed to engloid becasue he seems to think that i am. and its not money that is limiting me from getting a 220. on the machine end of it. just wiring for the house

When I had suggested 50 feet , obviously it was just a suggestion. If 50 feet wouldn't work, you do know, You can run more wire.... Pretty simple.
Also, I'm glad that you're not a newb welder...seeing that you've owned a 110v mig prior to this. Maybe you should move out of your parents house with all of this money that you have.
Also , as suggested above, What type of driers do you have in your parents house? Unless it is a gas drier...which are starting to become more and more uncommon, You are going to be sitting on a 220v plug in right there. I also don't see how it'd be such a big deal to make a long extention cord and as I suggested run it through the house as needed when you need to weld.

itd probably be about 125 feet. still not sure thatd be that safest, and i dont think theyd let me.
but ill ask. how do you make a 220 extension?
and having 1000 for a 220v machine doesnt mean im rich enough to move out dousche

Permit? Why get a permit that obligates you to pay money, taxes, and get an inspection when you're done? When do they ever do inspections without a permit? When you sell, maybe. As long as you do a proper install, it will pass inspection. A permit is nothing more than a way that they allow you to rat yourself out for doing home improvements, then they can charge you for the inspection and even jack your property tax based on the improvements.
My breaker box is on one end of my house, on the outside. My garage is on the other end of the house. I have no way to get under the house, since it sits on a concrete slab. I bought the heavy aluminum cable that they commonly use to wire up mobile homes. It comes in the set of 4 wires, but I only used 3. I ran the cables along the ceiling through the house, in the corner. I plan to get some of that big 6" crown molding that goes in on an angle, and put it over the cables. This will then pass codes and look nice. From that point, I was able to run under a staircase and into the garage, where I wired in a 175amp panel that feeds cold saw, welding machine, hot water heater, fan, and my compressor. All this cost about $125.

yeah, im definitely aloud to do things to someone else's house that they dont want.
like i said, theyre both realtors, and they have to do things the "proper way"

how about instead of this gay arguing, you answer my ?
i dont need to be criticized because i dont own my own home, and cant convince my parents to run, or let ME run 220 through our house.

Nobody can read your mind or those of your parents. How should we know that they won't let you do anything to the house? In fact, you stated that you got a quote for having it done. This would lead any reasonable person to believe that it was fine with your parents. People are only trying to help you out here.
Having parents in real estate, it seems they would realize that wiring in 220v power to the garage will ADD VALUE to the home. Further, if you did the work and paid for it, it's like giving them money.

You're probably not getting answers because of your attitude. If this is the most respect you can give to others, maybe you should go back to the playground and play with the other kids. I answered your question already. I guess you didn't bother to read it, so I edited it and took it out. Are you waiting on somebody to say you can put a Snycrowave 350 on 110v power or something?
You should be respectful of others and when you ask a question, pay attention to the answer... or don't bother asking.

Obviously, you don't give respect when you get it. I gave you enough respect to offer you advice, and you were a ***** in response.
Others offered advice and you jumped on them also. Grow up kid, or quit bothering the adults with your questions.
I hope nobody bothers to give you answers, especially tips as to how to wire something up...as you would likely endanger your life and those of your parents.

I think you got it wrong there pal, I didnt get mad, why would I? I was just trying to say what would be a good purchase. I think you just assumed, that I got mad although I was just trying to give you a better option, but I dont understand why you thought of it that way.
Maybe you got some issues against anyone who tries to help?
