Bleeding the power steering system??
I know there are flushes for the fluid in the power steering system that various place will do for a pretty good chunk of change, but is there any way/instructions on how to do it at home?
Probably not much help....but I heard that if you all you can do is removed the amount in the pump resivour and wipe it out with a cloth. Refill, and then raise up the cars front end and then turn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock. .....May not be correct but I did read this somewhere and it worked for my pos ford.
Actually, the Helm manual says to do this...
Lift the front wheels off the ground. Disconnect hoses to drain the PS reservoir, get whatever hoses you need to run the return line into a bucket. (I had better luck opening a hose/tube for the PS cooler just forward of the radiator.) Hang onto that hose...
Start the engine, turn the steering lock-to-lock a couple times. Immediately shut off the engine. PS fluid will squirt out, so be prepared for a mess.
Re-connect all the hoses & fill the reservoir. Start the engine & turn lock-to-lock a couple times. Turn off the engine & wait 1/2 hour for the foam to settle. Re-fill the reservoir & repeat until it stops foaming. Maybe 3 times...
