Default B16 in a 4x4 Suzuki?

I just got a wild hair. Is it possible to stick a B16 in a Suzuki Samurai? If so what's involved? I would love to have vtec honda power in my rock smasher.

Rock crawling with no torque. Sounds like fun.

The best way to stick a RX7 motor in would be with the tranny & just run a short driveline to the divorved tranny.

How about a Chevy big block. More HP and TQ than any mild Honda engine and cheaper too, you can get a running 454 from a junkyard for like $500.

Only $500 for a bigblock but another $3000-$5000 for the drivetrain to support it. Plus I want keep it light w/ stock drivetrain just a little more power. Thanks for the idea though.

anything is possible, but probability is a different story. Somunds like a bad idea. THe 4.3L chevy motor seems to be a comon swap. it think there are kits for it off the self. that would be my choice. the b16 would suck

with the right gearing you could make a brigs 5 horse move your sammy over rocks......im not at all into trucks but a few buddys of mine are into the toyota and suzuki thing and rock the dual cases. there you can put the truck in first and let it idle and walk next to the truck......at like 4k in first they are going like 6mph lol.....a b16 would be a huge step up from a sammy motor......ive seen there samurai's with just gears go over some pretty crazy *** ****.....have fun, id think maybe you could make an adapter plate kinda like the h22/bseries one......mounts would just be made up but it would be pretty nice

Good luck getting the tranny to work since the engine is mounted the direct opposite. I would go with the rotary setup over a b16. it's smaller also so should be easier and you can keep it carb'd since the 13b has carb support if you wanna make it easier then turning your sammy into EFI. Rotaries are like the bitch engine and get put in everything! There's a mag out that is just rotary powered cars and it's not just RX7's. You'd be suprised. If you would more set on the b16 then you'd be better off with a B20 4wd tranny but it's all up to you if you want to keep 4wd. Don't sammy's use solid front axle too and not independent susp.?

Why in hell would a drivetrain cost that much? You can probably find a mid-70's 4wd big block Chevy truck for like $1000 in a junkyard.

I can tell you're not a subscriber of the 'no replacement for displacement' logic. It's crazy when I see people on here happy as hell when they gain 20 hp or so off of their stock 113 hp beast, when in all reality, I can spend less than a grand swapping a bigger motor into a car/truck and have a little under 400 hp... reliably. No lifting heads, no blown gaskets, just stock horsepower from an engine created before ecu's and distributorless ignitions.

I wouldn't mind a bigblock but damn that would be like half the weight of the sammy! lol. I know it wasn't in your options but I think the 13b would be the best.

If you have enough horsepower weight isn't as much of an issue.

weight always matters. You dont need a big block to move a samurai, short gears and the stock bitch as motor can make those things do some crazy ****. Now if we're talking about some old hunk of steel truck then maybe a big block is needed. Yet its still fun to see those big *** heavy trucks stuck and a lil sammy cruising by.
