Default Sad day for me, 98 #1076 snapped #3 rod, need new longblock ....:(

Well long story short, I bought my 98 ITR 1076 39k a year ago from Jerry Nyguen at DNR Performance in Hayward CA. The R has been great. I have treated this car with respect (other then a couple of autox ) and have been slowly restoring the car(its a theft recovery) with new or used oem parts. The long block is new with 22k on it(New from Acura). The only mods on the motor are a spoon 70mm tb, ctr cams and a aem cai.

Well today as I took off from work, I shifted into 1st took it to 8k (which I do all the time)shifted into 2nd and then ping ping ping ping ping car dies. Im like sh*t, I broke my timing belt. I pop the hood and check the timing belt, still in one piece. Im thinkin what the hell??? Get back in and try to tap the starter, it clicks like starter is bad which I know isnt because it was just replaced. I call a tow truck and tow it home. We do some test and the motor feels seized. I start pullin spark plugs and #3 wont come out. My friend Jason says, man you snapped a rod, we check the dip stick and its way over the second dot, full of fresh oil and coolant mix. heres number 3 spark plug we finally get out, sorry crappy cell phone pic

Ill have more pics as I tear it down, but I can already tell that the motor is toast.

So I am gonna bite the bullet and buy a new/used long block. I am fully paid for Expo 5 and I really need your guys help to get me back on the road. So if you have or know of a good condition b18c5 long block for sale, please pm me or email me at Bcivictyper@aol.com.

Thanks
Chris

Could be... my friend had a B16 and misshifted it, few months later he was driving down the freeway and snapped a rod.

Sorry to hear about your engine, piston three looks like it is toast. Hopefully you won't need a new block but coolant in the oil is never good. Goodluck with the rebuild.

Sorry to hear about your motor
Curious though-what makes you think you snapped a rod? A dropped valve will give you the same kind of carnage, and is much more common on b-series engines. K-series motors are another story.

doesnt sound like it. just hop in after a day of hardwork and out of the parking lot mash it to 8K. I really hope you let the motor warm up before you did this.

That's exactly what I was going to ask as well. Please people, even though it's a honda, let your car warm up before thrashing her.

I have a compustar alarm with remote start and i always let her warm up at least 10min before i walk out the door at work, even if its 60-70 degrees out. I hopin that is is just a dropped valve, but i am thinkin the worst

"Just dropping a valve" can be pretty horrendous, trust me
