Default Smog Tech Professionals?

i have a few questions regarding smogging a car.

If you have a code 1 " 02 senor " and the check engine lights comes on after driving for 5-10 mins, will that even qualify you to start a smog check? If not . .

What if i was to take out the bulb on the cluster where the check engine light is at?
then will that let the smog tech start the smog check?

When the check engine ligths comes on, Does the DYNO automatically reads FAIL?
Or does it still continue on with the smog check process?

Can't seem to fix that code 1 error.

If the check engine light comes on during the test its an automatic fail.
If you take the bulb out the smog computer will know and you will fail.
Have you changed the 02 sensor? Have you checked the wire for any breaks in it?

They check to make sure the check engine light works. They know it's supposed to be on with the key on and go off after the engine is started. So I'm assuming if the light comes on at anytime it's a fail since it's related to how well the engine is running and in Cali smog techs are ****. In the end, it comes down to the smog tech and what they are looking for or willing to overlook.

Just replace the O2 sensor and reset the ecu and go get it tested. Trying to trick the smog ref is going to get you into a world of trouble.

she says that its not the o2sensor thats bad, there is just a leak in the exhaust causing the light to come on.

How does she know its not the O2 sensor??? An exhaust leak will not cause the O2 code to be shown. I have run open header which is the biggest exhaust leak and never have thrown an O2 code.

I believe shes' swapped [b18c USDMGSR], and if she is not BAR'd, its pointless. Just find a connection and get that illegal smog job done and over with. Then start prepping your car for passing the BAR. Driving around in So Cal with a swapped Honda is like playing chicken with trains with your eyes closed, its only a matter of time. - Darrell

If you have a swap then you have bigger concerns than just an o2 sensor. But if you are not afraid of a little wire splicing you can cut the wires from your check engine light on the back of your cluster and splice your oil light wires to the CEL wires at the harness. That way when the tech puts the the key in the on position the CEL will illuminate and then shut off like it is supposed to. And honestly most techs will not pay attention to the fact that the oil doesn't come one(since it is not a requirement for smog testing)But if you have an o2 sensor fault then I'm pretty sure you will have problems with the sniffer.

Good luck. If you have any more Q's just holler

The o2 sensor isn't bad because i had a shop did a diagnostic on it. Came out to be that there alot of air coming out at where the header bolts onto the downpipe because the bolts are stripped and the air to fuel mixture isn't correct and that's why the o2 sensor was reading wrong codes.

Well get that exhaust leak fixed and go get your test done. It doesn't sound like your problem is that big.
