timing belt broke in 85 accord
My timing belt recently broke (about 24 hours after a jiffylube oil change.. just what the doctor ordered.. bleh)
anyway. is the carbureted engine for the 1985 accord hatchback interference or not? would i be okay just replacing the timing belt, or am i going to find a handful of bent valves?

The answer to both of you is yes. On the 85 you have a pretty good chance of it being ok, especially if it's an auto. Your car was probably mad at you for letting j-lube touch it. If I remember right all hondas except passport (not a honda anyhow) are interference.
it is an automatic --just my winter car
i hope the car is okay. how can i tell if the valves are screwed? should i just pick up another head from a junkyard or..?
only 83k miles. it is my first honda and i am actually impressed. --makes me want a newer hatch, or a crx haha

you can test to see if valves are ok by using compression tester. if the compression comes within acceptable range, then the valves are O.K. if it comes in zero, then there is a good chance that you have bent valves.

If you wanna know NOW, try this...
Spin the crank directly to 90deg away from TDC. Either direction, even backwards. DON'T turn it thru TDC or BDC. Now all pistons are at mid-stroke & you can spin the camshaft all you want.
Check the valve lash. Any bent valves should have valve lash that's way off.
