Default my 2002 honda accord v6 timing belt tensioner broke!

okay i need help. i am a broke A** college student, studying at the university of georgia. i bought my 02 honda accord almost 12 months ago, and made sure i had a timing belt replaced. yesterday, while driving, my car conched out, but didnt totally shut off. thankfully i was a couple hundred feet from the road my house is on, and i was able to make it home. once home the car would not start, so i towed it to the local honda dealer. now they are saying the timing belt sliped a little because they think a tooth off one of the tensioner broke off causing the belt to slip. after reading some other forums, i realized this was not going to be good. i dont understand how the belt could have slipped if i just got it replaced when i got the car. that cost a 2k, and now they are saying this will be about $900.....first i would like to say "f" the labor cost being 92$ an hour, wtf!!! also how do i know if my valves broke. they could just tell me they did bend or something, and i would have no idea. i just need some help with what to do with this situaution. i live paycheck to paycheck, and i cant do this !

1) You're in an '03+ section
2) You may have had a shitty mechanic replace the part
3) You may have replaced the parts with non-OEM spec equipment
4) If you don't like Honda's assessment have it towed to a different place for a second opinion
5) If your timing belt goes out, there is a VERY good chance on an interference engine the valves will be bent.

i would like to thank you for responding. they called me back and told me that a past mechanic/person put a general motor screw/bolt on , im not exactly sure i guess the water pump, broke off into the engine block? as well, the tensioner broke which stripped the timing belt... so now they told me they are using a drill to try and get the bolt out, but if not they said they may have to drop the engine which will cost a fortune. why things like this happen to me, i have no "f"ing clue...

Yep and that very well may have been it, using either the wrong size or grade bolt could definitely cause an issue like that.

There is another V6 specific forum (I believe it's v6performance.net?) may want to post there too, they specialize in these motors.
