Ok looks like I'm going to expo... Need some help.
Ok well was give the ok to take the time off work so it looks like I'll be driving to expo. I do need some help with a few things. As this is my first track event, what should i bring? What kind of tools? I'm going to try and get another set of rims and tires so should anything happen, I'll have a way to get home. Any tips from people who have got to events that are far way would be great.
Did not think about break pads. Carbotech is going to be out there, think i might just pick up a set while I'm out there. And you know I'm good about getting beer

I drove to california (from virginia), did two days of the Expo @ Buttonwillow, and then drove back on the same tires and brakes.
But that's why they call me ... crazy ed.
I wouldn't count on being able to buy pads at the event.
I won't be bringing spare wheels this time either (unless I get some specifically for "racing")!
One last thing, I might even be able to scrounge up an extra helmet or two (but they're outdated M85, I think)

doh, forgot about helmet. Jason (typer98) has one I might be able to borrow. How about gloves? Do any of you guys use gloves while driving?

AssPenny: I might be renting a car here to drive up there and back (going to visit my old hometown, hit cedar point, maybe stop in NC for a night or two of beer drinking, etc). So we can throw tools/tires/etc in it as well. After lunch I'll post what *I* think you need...

I should be able to go, but gotta check with work. I will probably rent a UHaul, if I do go to the expo.

I'm going to be bringing some *basic* tools for changing wheels/tires etc. I'm going crazy on bringing tools. I'm hoping that if I *NEED* some tools, I can count on someone there from H-T.
I'm assuming that someone is bringing A LOT of tools that happens to be towing their R there.

I've got a tool chest which i am going to start filling up, but i just wanted to know what odd ball tools/parts i should bring. I'm bringing the standard sockets and wrenchs and all the crap. I'm going to rig up my tool box like D's. That thing was pimp.
If you have stock BRAKE
pads with plenty of material you'll be fine. I used stock pads, fluids and tires at the first expo and only noticed a little brake fade at the end of the pit straight. The pads were hardly even ashed after the event. You dont necessarily HAVE to buy new pads to run at the event, though you may find you would like to pick up some better streetable pads after you have run the event.
As for the rest, the tires were heat cycled out after that event (I also was using those for autocross and they were beginning to get a bit bald) so you may end up with new tires afterwards too depending on what you have been using yours for. Tools and whatnot, just bring whatever you might think you need, a basic socket set, maybe some needlenose and dikes, and a tire iron. Extra fluids (brake, tranny) are suggested, just in case. Extra oil is a MUST. You may burn a little oil at the track and should have extra on hand to keep the levels right.
Unless you are "Mr. Race" you probably won't need all that much, though I would recommend bringing your own helmet or one you have on loan from someone who won't be there.

2. New tires (street tires, 195/50/15 s03's would work well, or even p700z pirelli's) (edit: oh yeah, don't use the new tires on the track unless they have a good bit of mileage on them first)
3. Some good brake fluid. Castrol LMA, Ford Truck HD (or whatever they call it now), ATE Super Blue, M600, etc.
4. Spare brake pads. Either another set of CC-X pads for those spoons or see if Carbotech can make some Hawk Blue material pads for them (NOT a carbotech material, get hawk blue material.) They are "local" to you so if you don't know which application you need, try to visit them and see if Andie can match it up. Plus that way you can let Larry entertain you with his dramatic usage of the word "f|_|ck".
5. A helmet. Whatever the ITRExpo requires. Snell 90 or better???
6. Beer
That's about it.
I have some tools too so we should be tiziite with tools.
