Default 500 to spend what next? (looked at old topics before)

ok i have a 99 ek with a b16 and an ITR tranny. it has js racing intake, dc 4-1 header, act six puck clutch, no cat, world sport exhaust, and thats about it performance wise. i was thinkin about cam gears and a vafcII then tuning, but would cam gears help on stock cams? and i dont wanna save for a turbo or put it on the bottle, all motor all the way. ive got a meet on the 9th at the track and i wanna see what times i can hit thanks

I would look into getting a better header befor I got anything else - I would get the most out of my I/H/E before I went inside the motor - I would ditch the VAFC idea and get some kind of standalone, (Hondata, Crome, Uberdata) to get the most power out of your mods

I kinda agree with this however you will need cam gears before you get aftermarket cams

how about future plans? do you plan to do any more to the motor, or is this $500 the last you plan to put into it.

if the $500 is all that you plan to spend then look for the 'best bang for your buck'

if the $500 is not the last you plan to put into this motor, then you should be aware that money best spent might not give you huge gains if any at all right now, but will set you up nicely for your next mod(s).

What about a set or used itr cams, and 8 itr valve springs (Use ur current intake springs on your exhaust springs) you could probably find this set up for close to or less than 500?

I personally would do a set of ctr cams. Assuming you are using the stock rev limiter, you can run them with your stock valvesprings. As far as what the future holds, I have seen a few ls/vtecs that make over 200 whp with type r cams....so IMO these would be a wise investment. Plus, if you do decide to sell them, you can get your oney back out of them as factory honda camshafts do not wear out. Both of my roomates have swapped r cams in there b16's for temp use and they made a very very noticable difference.

why would you get a new header unless you're gonna go SMSP, swapping your DC for a $500 header isent gonna give you $500 worth of a difference

I would do cams. And if you're gonna get cams might as well go all the way. CTR's just wouldn't do it for me. Save up a little more and get either Toda B's or Skunk2 stage 2's. That'll really wake that motor up!

I'm assuming he is running stock, or close to stock compression....and if he is then Toda B's or S2S2's will not benefit him at all. Ctr's are a very very under-estimated camshaft. I think allot of people think that just because they are an o.e. camshaft that they are weak.....I have watched a 98 hatch with type r cams run 12.7's on slicks all day long. They are very reliable, don't require a change in valvetrain(in this case) and he can re-sell them for as much as he paid for them when he's done using them. To me it's a no brainer, dependable power, gaurenteed hp increase, plug-and-play, and very high resale value.

Ummmm, nitrous? I don't think a set of cams or new header will pick you up 100hp.

i would also agree with the ctr cams...if you want to feel a difference now with your $500 rather than getting hondata or something where you have to wait for the rest of your allmotor stuff to get in so that you could tune it. also you need more money to tune the hondata every time you get something in your car. (not necessarily everytime u get something new just big stuff that would make a big difference)
