jsut got my jdm b16 swap and i got a y21 tranny wtih it, it still has the half shaft attached to teh tranny. i read on here somewheres if u can look through the tranny and see out the other side with nothing in the way u have lsd. i look through and see the half shaft in there and nothing in the way, does this mean i have LSD? i didnt order it, thats y i ask...

does the y21 tranny code mean anything about LSD?

as i said it has the halfshaft still in there but when i look through u see the end of the halfshaft, does anybody have a pic of the tranny hole that isnt LSD?

 

where did you get the swap from? call them and ask them. most places offer a lsd trans with the swap but for like $300 more....

 

An open diff will have a small pin going across the middle when you look through the diff.

so u could see it running up and down across the hole in the tranny? sweet i think i just got a free LSD y21 tranny, but i would still like a picture of a non LSD tranny hole so i know wha i would be looking for, but i can put my finger in the hole and it barely goes through to the other side before i touch the half shaft spindle

I have an LSD in mine sorry I can't help.

 

if you can touch the half shaft end with your finger, than it is lsd. A non lsd has a rather large dowel shaped thingy in the center of the two female ends. Flash a light, if there is nothing inside besides the other end of your cv shaft, than consider yourself lucky.

 

just take the half shaft out. it will save you alot of guess work.

thanks i seen no dowel type thing in there, so im guessing its LSD, friggin awsome

When I burn out in my Sol (stock tranny, I think) I always leave 2 black marks...
So am I just getting equal traction, or what?

Yes. Each side is alternating between slip and grip.

Hence the reason that retarded "tests" like burnouts prove nothing.

if you have lsd, when u spin ur wheel (physically with ur hands on a lift) they should spin the same way right? where non-lsd would spin opposite...?

That "test" doesn't work either. Some LSDs will spin them in the same direction, while other LSDs will spin them in opposite directions like an open diff.

so basically the only way to tell is if there is a straight through hole or if there is a bar going across in the tranny? even the turning tires wont tell u?

Right. Just look for the diff pin.
