tranny is DONE need help!
ok so here is the deal, i was driving down the road, and i put my trans in nuetral cause im just coasting down a hill, and i try to put it in gear and it does nothing i have my clutch to the floor and it won't go into any gear, the tow truck guy said it was the clutch but my other friend that worked at inline pro said it was the clutch master cylinder, anyone have experience with a similar problem?
I would give a more detailed description but that is all that really happened, i couldnt get it in gear and when it did i stopped at a stop light in first gear with the clutch to the floor but hten i stahled even though i had the clutch in

Could be a lot of things. Master cylinder is one of them. Ya gotta tell us more to trouble shoot. Does it go into gear with car off? Fluid level? Any squeeks with car off just pressing on the clutch...
i had a similar experience...96 ls. Driving on the oe clutch still. Downshifted to 4th, put it back to fifth and had a hell of a time pulling it outta gear and putting it in gear. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it woulnt. Found out it was a spring chip from the clutch had broken off and was wedged between the flywheel and clutch disc. Similar but far from what you have.

ok well here are more details, when the car is on it will not go into any gear and when i try to put it in reverse it makes this horrid grinding sound
when the car is off it will go into all gears
the clutch makes a slight squeek when i press down on it to the floor

yeah i had thought it was the master cylinder cause my friend had the same thing happen in a 4 door 5speed civic with an ls motor and it was the master cylinder but i wanted everyones thoughts on it

the good news is its most likely not the transmission itself, judging from the symptoms you just described. The transmission is doing exactly what it should in your case because the clutch doesn't disengage properly.
What does the car do if you try to start it while in gear? hehe..
how many miles on the clutch? Has your clutch been slipping really really bad for a while?

if i put it in first when the car is off, and then put the clutch to the floor, the car will start but when i did this before i had the clutch to the floor after i got moving and stopped and the car stalled while i had the clutch to the floor
if either cylinder is bad the resivior will be low and it will be visably leaking/wet. To check the master cylinder look under the dash under at the firewall where the rod comes through . if there is fluid there thats your problem. if both are dry and you have fluid i would start looking for a clutch. I have a ACT organic clutch for sale if your intrested. still new in the box.
i had this happen to me on the freeway.. i was driving fine in 4th gear going up a hill and when i went to shift into 5th, it wouldn't go in. i tried putting it back into 4th but it didnt want to go there either. i started pulling off the freeway trying to muscle my way into at least ONE of the gears.. finally it went into 3rd, and when i slowly started engaging the clutch, it made this nasty howling/whining sound almost like a buzz saw was about to shred my clutch to smithereens.
luckily i managed to drive it all fucked up like that for another mile to back to work. sometimes i wasn't even able to get it OUT of gear, causing me to stall out.. it was crazy as hell.
turns out it was one of the springs that broke..
i had a brand new NEUSPEED N2 sport clutch slapped in there and its been driving fine ever since..

cluch masters are common failures... check the fluid level (with the cap open)... then look inside the car where the master comes through the firewall... fluid will be leaking out of the boot and onto the pushrod... time for a new clutch master cylinder... one other possiblilty is that one of the clutch disc damper springs has fallen out and is now jammed in between the prssure plate and disc which effectively locks them together... see above...
