sohc zc question...pics inside
I'm trying to install a sohc zc but it came carbuerated and I need to take off all the carb stuff and change it to intake mani stuff. In the pic below, What is the large oil gap next to the right most intake port and also do I need the water rail that runs below it?

thanks
brian

thanks

the hole to the right side of the intake ports is where the fuel pump was on the carbed engine - you need to make a block-off plate out of 1/8" aluminum with 2 holes in it - silicone it up and bolt it on - water rail? are you meaning the pipe that runs to the thermostat housing? you need to leave that - it comes from the water pump
Thanks, Ive heard about that oil pump thing, and now I know to block it off. what I meant about the water rail was the one inch pipe that runs beneath all the intake ports and has the grapefruit size housing at the far bottom right of the picture. This is the thermo housing and Im going to retain it?
Thanks for the help, Im asking all these questions because the motor it is replacing is a dohc zc and im not sure the similiarities
thanks again

Yes, u need to keep the thermostat housing...
Question, is that a SOHC ZC with VTEC? If not, why are u going from DOHC ZC to SOHC ZC?
Just asking, because if thats the SOHC ZC with VTEC, the hole right next to the last intake hole would be the VTEC solenoid if Im not mistaken... Not sure if thats the hole u meant or not tho...

no vtec....legality issues. I was always scared of getting pulled over with the dohc zc. funny thing is im probably going to turbo this motor, and I will be in the same boat. oh yeah, the dohc zc broke a timing belt too. that played a large part

actually you need to take that rear water tube off of that single cam motor because it had the carbs on it...
and you have 2 outlets on that rear tube. Well you only need one so i would take the rear water tube off your dohc zc and put it on your sohc zc. That extra nipple by the waterpump is for heating the carbs...which you dont have!!!
the mpfi only has 1 nipple on the back water tube. Just thought id help you out a bit (dont ask how i know)

I appreciate all the help. I still have to take out the dohc zc, so when I do that I might have more questions, but for the time being, I dont have anymore questions. Thanks again guys
