alryte, im hella confused...i kno obd1 was the oldschool diagnostic codes that were vehical specific or wutever..and obd2 is pretty much new school universal shyt...so, im confused cuz everyone on HT is always talking bout converting from 1 to 2 or 2 to 1 and im just wundering...WHY?! please help me out
the little "Check Engine" light in your gauge cluster is the main reason. OBD1 being less "sophisticated" monitored less sensors than newer obd2 equipped cars. so to avoid having constant cel's (Check engine lights) some people like to convert to an OBD 1 ecu.
OBD1 ecu's are also what companies such as Hondata and homebrew tuning programs such as uberdata and crome use because its easier for the programmer to not have more unnecessary sensors to worry about (most for just environmental reasons) So people with obd2 cars are SOL because in order to use the programs/hardware they have to first convert to obd 1.
